Can't connect to wifi
My precious can't sync anymore.
![]() Background: The Aura H2O has been connecting to wifi and syncing just fine since I first set it up in the evening of my birthday a couple of years ago. However, it no longer has the ability to connect to the home wifi that used to work just fine. I've removed all network information, restarted the e-reader and scanned for networks. Found the one that used to work, entered all the relevant information - nothing. (Yes, the wifi network is working. My laptop and all the other devices connect just fine.) I took the Aura in to work where we have an open guest wifi for visitors to use, and attempted to connect there. Same issue, the reader can't connect. I did a soft reset with a paperclip I found at my desk, but it made no difference. I'm assuming next step is a factory reset? If that fails, what is the next step after that? To accept that there is a hardware issue and learn to live without the sync between reader and phone app? The warranty is long since over, so Kobo won't be able to help me. |

Could you install the desktop app and would it sync with the devices via USB which would then get the info to Kobo for syncing with the phone app? I don't know the answer, just throwing it out there as a last ditch, much less convenient, idea.

That looks very promising! I will try that tonight when I get home.

The file is processed by Kobo, and after being installed it's deleted.

That makes sense. Sadly, it does not seem to have worked.
Factory reset next? |

Factory reset had no effect. Resigned to this being a hardware problem.

I still don't have wifi. I do have the new home screen, with firmware 4.3.8945. And it is atrocious, ugly, and completely lacking in any useful functionality at all. So, since I still don't have wifi... how do I roll this back to something that's not an idiot's version of Marketing to The Stupid Ones? |

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks back with both my Glo and Glo HD.
They could both see the Wi-Fi AP but not connect to it despite all sorts of fiddling with the Kobos. Eventually sorted by restarting my ADSL Router/Wi-Fi AP. Could be worth a try. BobC |

I knew there was a way to do it, I just couldn't quite figure out what I was looking for. The patches are linked in the developer forum, right? |

I now find a similar issue on a Touch N905; the SSIDs I can see vary scan to scan, often omitting strong signals 5 feet away. It works find on earlier builds but not on 4.3.8967

Patching fixed the home screen!
It took a few days before I had time to sit down and actually read the instructions and download the required files (it seemed unwise to run a firmware patch while distracted and in a hurry), but the home screen is now back to actually being useful again. Still no wifi, but Calibre will help me work around that. Thank you everyone who posted suggestions and advice! Karma to all! ![]() |
