New Kobo Aura 2013 owner

I got a 2013 Kobo Aura recently and I love it. I want to ask here, what are some improvements that can be made on it in terms of customization or firmware? I'm generally new to this device (and e-readers in general), but I wouldn't mind spending some time getting some extra functionality on it through changes.

What are some recommendations?

For me, I use some patches for adding dictionaries and something like that... and I manage it with calibre, the collections created from calibre are the best improvement for me.

I still have to find a device as lighter as this and so nice (no, neither the Glo HD or the Aura 2 are an improvement in terms of portability or a big improvement in screen IMHO, and the Aura One is not fit for being carried around, IMHO too).

I think the only improvement would be an Aura Mini

Install the better hyphenation dictionary that you can find at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=252405

It will give you better hyphenation and less gaps when using full justification.

I love my Aura too. I don't know if I would want to travel with an Aura One.

My recommendations:
  • Buy an inexpensive sleep cover from ebay - you can find them for about $8 US and they protect the device from flex type damage.
  • I load most of my books with calibre, and turn epubs into kepubs because I like the reading statistics which are enhanced with kepubs.
  • I use the wonderful patches that are available here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=260100 - I accept all the patches that are set to yes by default
I use the `Custom reading footer style`
patch with-
# Replacement footer height values: Touch/Mini/Glo/Aura/Aura2E
replace_string = 002A, `min-height:70px`, `min-height:25px`
replace_string = 003A, `max-height:70px`, `max-height:25px`

I set the `Custom Header menubar - reduce height by 50%`patch to yes.

Those settings give me the extra reading space I like.

Be sure to read all of the patching instructions carefully and get the patches for the firmware you are using. Also, backup the koboreader.sqlite database before patching, just in case.

ENJOY!

My favorites are full page reading and night mode (on the Glo and Glo HD).
