Conversion is not working for .doc format

I sent all of my books I had on Calibre to my Kindle email address. I did a bulk convert before I sent them. There is no place to put "convert" in the email address section to tell Amazon to convert the books. But I thought they were already in .mobi format when I sent them. I lost a bunch of my books because they would not convert. I now have a whole list of .doc format books on my Kindle. I tried to get Amazon/Kindle to help but I couldn't understand what they were talking about. Thank you for any help you can give me. Peace
