selectively sync books via cloud
I requested this as a feature request, but am also submitting this as a question in case it is possible without adding it as a feature.
Is there a way to selectively sync books by series to my Cloud account (in this case, One Drive) from Calibre? I ask this because, my total e-book library is huge, but there really is only 5-10 gigs of books I really want to access and update at any given time. Currently, I am copying the entire e-books directory with the database file and book files to the my OneDrive sync directory. I could change the backup program to only select those books with certain authors, but that is more cumbersome and gets me more books than I really need in the cloud. |

depends how you sync. e.g. I use free file sync to copy calibre to dropbox. I could use filters at that stage e.g. if I wanted only epub but not original epub sent to dropbox, that's a simple filter to add.
to filter on series may be a little harder, the filters only have filename and dates to work with Look at the capabilites of sync programs. or write a 2 step batch program. calibre in CLI to send to disc only books that are in a series, followed by a sync program to use those results and sync to your one drive. Just done't ask me exactly how to writ that. I am not a calibre CLI user Last edited by stumped; 11-21-2016 at 01:55 AM. |

This is a calibre question. In calibre you can create a blank library and using the "copy to library" feature you can selectively copy any series, author or book to a separate library. Once that is done sync your smaller library to the cloud.

1) Main Library 2) Cloud Sync Library #2 will have the books by series that I intend to sync to One Drive. In fact, I am saving #2 directly in the One Drive sync folder. Now the question: Is there a way to make it so that library changes to #1 (i.e. book metadata or books added to a series saved to #2) automatically reflect in the #2 library? Or do I have manually re-save the books from #1 to #2? I could not find the "copy to library" feature. The closest thing I found was a "save books to disk" feature. Per chance, is this what you were referring to? |

You could Move - Copy (delete after copy) - books from your main library to your cloud library, and when you no longer want them in the cloud move 'em back again. That way you'll only have one copy of the book and it's metadata to maintain. If you have multiple libraries, then by default the Copy to Library function is available on the Book list context menus, but you can also add it to other toolbars and menu's; and remove it from the book list context if you so wish. Copy to library and Save to disk are two different functions. When Copy to library is used, the copy remain visible to calibre because it is in a calibre library. When Save to disk is used the copy is beyond calibre's reach because it's not in a calibre library. The other major difference is that Copy to library will use calibre's structure and naming conventions for library folders and files, whereas Save to disk gives the user control over those things via the use of templates.
