Running really old version [1.23]...will I have any problems updating to current?
I haven't been here on mobileread for a while and haven't been updating Calibre either.
I am currently still on 1.23 and I see the current is 2.63. Will I have any problems updating Calibre? That is quite a few jumps in releases. (94 if my math is right!) I do plan to back my Calibre libraries up before I upgrade. Any other advice? |

Backup the database file in the Calibre folder (I'm not at home, so I don't remember the exact name - maybe "metadata.db"?). I know at least a couple of the Calibre updates changed the database structure and couldn't be automatically rolled back. So if you thought you might want to rollback to an older version, keeping a copy of that database is a safe practice.
Also, What operating system are you on? I believe WinXP folks have to stop at 2.0 or thereabouts, or risk it stop working. If you use WinXP, you might want to search in the Calibre forum. |

Thanks for the input! I was on Win 7 and just upgraded a couple days ago to 10. So I'm guessing I should be OK.

XP is limited to 1.48 (the last 1.x) (the 2.x installer will stop you from doing this on XP)
You must have a SSE2 compatible processor (not an old AMD Athelon) Last edited by BetterRed; 08-04-2016 at 09:47 PM. Reason: there wasn't a 1.84 |
