Calibre transfered books not showing up on Paperwhite 3

Hi,
I'm very new to the Kindle and Calibre so I'm really hoping I'm just missing something really obvious here because what I'm trying to do is so basic!

I'm just trying to transfer various ebooks (pdf, epub, mobi & azw3) with Calibre but none of the books I've tried to transfer - and convert when prompted by Calibre - show up on the Kindle Paperwhite 3??

I can see them on the Kindle when connected via USB but when I unplug and open the KIndle...nothing, nada??!
Why, what...help!? :-(

Have you tried leaving it alone for a bit? Kindle doesn't show newly loaded books immediately after unplugging it from the USB. It takes a bit before it shows all the books.

On the upper left hand side of your home screen, there should be an All | Downloaded selection. Change from the confusingly labelled "All" to "Downloaded". To the right of that is a Drop down selection, which should be set to "All Items." (depending how Calibre is setup, the sideloaded converted books can be either "Book" or "Document")

Are you sure about this? I don't think I've ever seen this happen. Of course, I've also never added more than a few books at a time, either.

Resolved! Thanks to all, Melovesflying is correct, it can take a little while especially when transferring several files at once.
Rashkae, you nailed it! Utterly confusing and mislabeled!? That's why I even reset my Kindle thinking it maybe be somehow corrupt/defective.
The odd thing though is that some books show up in the ALL section and others in the DOWNLOADED??
Maybe because of what you said, how Calibre labels some converted files as Document or Books? Anyway of controlling that and assigning the proper setting?

Yep. When adding a large number of books, it takes a couple of seconds before at least 1 of my recently transfer books appear on the Kindle.

I guess I never tried with a large enough number of books. I tried it with 15 and they all showed up immediately. I wonder what the limit is to cause the delay?

It's only confusing if you don't realise it's labelled from the viewpoint of your Cloud library. "All" means "all the books in your library"; "Downloaded" means "books you've downloaded onto your Kindle".

Of course it is. Nobody would ever sideload books, after all: everyone buys everything on their Kindles from Amazon, right?

I suspect that for the majority of Kindle users little or no sideloading is ever done.

ALL means ALL the Books on your Amazon Account.... So ALL 200 e-boks on my account & All my Collection Names show but Not the other 1400+ Sideload e-books.
Also it doesn't meant the Last 25 on my Amazon Account either. They are Not in the Doc or Books files either.

The overwhelming majority of Kindle owners do precisely that, yes. We here at MR are not typical users!

From experience, it will take a few seconds for new books to show up, regardless of how many new books there are.
But when there are lots of new books, a few will show up after a few seconds, and then a few seconds later some more will show up, and a few seconds later...


You should never have a situation where you wait a few minutes and still cannot even tell that you ever added books at all.
If you think that has happened, it is a sign of either serious hardware damage (busted eMMC)* or else the All/Downloaded confusion again.
