Troubleshootings Calibre and Avira

Hi everyone.

I bought Kobo Aura H20 3 days ago, so I am a just a new Kobo user and this forum. I also have looked and searched topics which are included like this problems but I couldn't fix it. For this reason I hope you can understand me as opened this topic.

I want to go step by step.

1) Avira Antivirus Warning Message

Firstly, I am using Windows 7. When I contacted my Kobo to Pc, Avira shows warning message. I am attaching this photo but it is my native language. Translation is in bottom of photo.

' F:/KOBOeReader is blocked reason of WORM/Lnk.Lodbak.Gen

I searched this virus ( or etc. ) on web. This is about usb flash driver. There is some solution but I don't know how can apply these methods on Kobo. So Has my Kobo device got virus? If It does, How can I fix it ?

2) Error communicating with device

After my searching, I found too much topics about it. Actually I studied them and I understood that It is about Kobo account. But I can't use device without account. When I logged off, device reseted itself. In this situation I can't find anything to do. By the way after this connection with USB cable, I plugged out Kobo from PC. Afterwards, I didn't do anything on Kobo which is needed wireless. Wireless connection seemed clearly but Kobo gave warning message about internet connection. I am attaching it too.

3) Showing Kobo symbol in Computer folder. ( It is interested with first article )

After this problems, I tried to add books manually. When I entered Computer folder and double clicked Kobo, I noticed that in this section there is one more folder. In advance I knew this problem about flash driver's virus too. You can see in photo. I tried to fix it with Avira but It repeats again.

In conclusion, I know I wrote too much but I am new user and really I didn't have huge knowledge about it. In this step I didn't know anything to do. My only options are writing Kobo Customer Services and this forum and I did it. I hope you will understand.

Thanks in advance.

Did you buy the Kobo new and sealed? If not, I suggest completely factory resetting it.

Yes, do a factory reset. You need to solve the first problem before even thinking about the others. And, other than the network error, I think these are all related to that problem. The factory reset should remove the virus as it wipes the root partition and restores it from a location the virus shouldn't be able to get to.

In this order, without any other actions or steps:

0. Ensure your Windows computer is malware-free.

1. Factory reset the Kobo. The full factory reset, not just the pinhole restart.

2. Turn the Kobo on, log in to your Kobo account on the device.

3. Connect the Kobo to your wifi, run any necessary system updates.

4. Then and only then, connect it to your computer with a USB cable and click Connect on the Kobo screen. Do not let Avira scan your Kobo - it does not have a virus if you properly factory reset it. Do NOT try to "fix" the Kobo with Avira.

5. Ensure your Calibre is fully updated.

6. Then see what happens when you try to put books on your Kobo using Calibre.

@meeera

Thank you for your message. I already did your saying as step by step and It is still same.

By the way, I tried to connect my Kobo to different computer with USB cable. Firstly, It has got AVG Antivirus Protector. It gave a warning message as Trojan Horse! I ingore it then I opened Calibre. I did not receive any communication error and sent my e-books clearly to my device.

I guess I have problem with former PC. Can Antivir block Calibre as contect to Kobo?

calibre accesses the Kobo as a storage device using the native Windows support. calibre is just reading and writing files using the regular Windows file APIs.
