Amazon update after jailbreak
Hi there,
A few months ago, I received a mail by Amazon which had told me to update my Kindle Touch 4th Generation with the latest software. The update would allow me to continue using the kindle online services... The update failed. Years ago, I jailbreaked my kindle. GUI launcher has been running on my device since then. I guess this is the reason why I haven't been able to update the Amazon software. Can anyone help me? Do I have to uninstall the GUI launcher? If so, how can I do this? Many thanks! |

What is a "Kindle Touch 4th Generation"? Please specify the model names we use here (or give the first 6 characters of your serial number).
You should uninstall your hacks using the specific uninstallers provided with them (you may need to download them again from where you got them). Then you should be able to apply an amazon firmware update. |

That would be a K5.
Try the Amazon update package again - and tell us what error code you are seeing not just "didn't work". |

If he has an old hack collection (back when it was common to mess with the root partition), he is probably getting a U003 (hacks detected) error, I think. But he should tell us.
"Oops I did a boo-boo" is usually not enough information for us to give a useful solution to the problem... You can try running NiLuJe's "Dummy Test Hack", which creates a report showing a list of installed hacks that it searches for (and other useful information). Though it is an "update_install.bin" file, it does not install anything -- just creates that report. Then, go find uninstallers for what it reports. Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for your willingness to help! Here are some more details: - Serial number: B011 1608 ... - I jailbroke the device in Feb 2013 and installed the GUI launcher. I followed the advice in this forum. - The current firmware version is Kindle 5.1.2 (JBPAtch: 3.2.1) - I am not able to update to 5.3.2.1, error code 006 (I have tried it several times) - The Wifi connection between device and computer does not work anymore Thanks for any more help! |

If you had searched here for: "error 006" you would have found links such as:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=208954 Which is still the current advice. = = = = Translation: Kubrick it. |
