Copy books from Kindle to laptop

Hi All.
I have just installed Calibre and now want to copy some books I have on my Kindle Fire 7 HD into my Calibre program on my laptop.

I tried connecting via the KIndle cable and Windows Explorer (Win 10) shows the Kindle but I don't see it in Calibre and I don't see where I would expect to see the KIndle in Calibre. I looked at every folder showing under Kindle but I see no sign of the books I want to copy in the laptop Calibre. I'm wondering if I need a plugin or am I doing it right so far?

I thought I would be able to connect over wi-fi but I can't see how to do that either!

Any pointers/explanations would be gratefully received.

If the books are downloaded from Amazon, you cannot get them from a Kindle tablet app.

(Well, you might be able to find the hidden directory where they are stored, but getting them DeDRMed is... complicated.)

Install Kindle for PC: http://amzn.com/kindlepcdownload and download your books using that, then add them into calibre.

Thanks for that! I had been trying to use USB but the battery was very low. Once I topped it up I could then see my books.

As you say DRM is a problem which I'm attempting to solve, if I can.

You need to DL them from your Amazon account to your PC then transfer them to the Calibre. Go to Amazon DL the App to your PC
