Trashing those Pesky Little Read Me Files
Over time these little text files get stored with the books and I would like to declutter. It was intuitively obvious what functions/plugins to use to strip these out of the library.
Suggestions? |

What README files?
Are they listed as formats in calibre? Then you probably added them accidentally. Use Remove books ==> Remove files of a specific format from selected books |

Generally I see ReadMe's with games, particularly with plugins/mods, where they are used to provide instructions or various options. I'm not exactly sure why you would get a ReadMe with an ebook, but...
![]() I would suggest looking through each ReadMe and saving any important ones (with instructions or options inside) after re-naming them to include the book (mod?) name (example: War and Peace ReadMe.txt). Generaly speaking you don't want a couple hundred files just named "ReadMe" lying around your hard drives - you will forget which ReadMe goes to which game/mod/book/whatever. If these are ebook related ReadMe's, you could include the contents:
Addendum: This message was written with consideration for the possibility that the original poster might be using calibre to organize material (music, etc) other than books where retaining a separate ReadMe file is still important. Last edited by Sabardeyn; 01-28-2016 at 08:48 AM. |

The only thing that should be stored in a books folder is a cover.jpg, metadata.opf and the book in whatever formats you have stored. Do you have some other file(s) stored there as well? Something you have added separately?

Most readme files are txt or RTF. Just Click on FORMATS in the bar on the left to find them all. Check them to be sure they aren't something important and then delete. Some readme files contain links to additional online references or related source materials.
