Identifying source of old EPUB file?
Hi folks. I have an EPUB book that I bought from somewhere several years ago (maybe 2011)? I'm trying to figure out the source so that I can de-drm it properly. I have ruled out Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple iBooks and Kobo books. When I try to import it to Adobe Digital Edition, it tells me that "This computer is not authorized to open [book name] because this item is authorized to a vendor ID". But none of the vendors shown look familiar to me.
Any thoughts on how I can track down the source? Thanks! |

Look inside the ePub and look at the OPF. Sometimes the OPF has the vendor listed like Sony or Google.

Thanks for your quick reply. I opened the epub file using Text Edit and I didn't see OPF anywhere? Is there another way to "look inside" the file?
I did see a bunch of stuff that seemed to reference Adobe: Quote:

Change the .epub extension to .zip and open it that way then you'll be able to see the file structure inside the ePub package.

U (for unpack), then Explode (use your favorite TXT editor to peek at the OPF or other files)
Just don't Rebuild and nothing changes (if you choose to rebuild. Know what you are doing ![]() Abort (cancel) and it will close the File Explorer window |

Thanks everyone. I did manage to "unpack" the book and find the .opf file, but I didn't see anything useful there. BUT jhowell, I think you might be on to something - maybe it was a library book! Will check this further. If it was a library book, then I will need to go purchase it. Thank you!

OK. I'm pretty sure it was a library book. Don't know how it got mixed in with my other files.... but at least I know why it wasn't opening!
