E-ink is dying(?)
I spend a lot of time in trains. I see people with smartphones, I see people with dead trees. Once in a while I see tablet or notebook.
People with dedicated e-readers are almost not present there. And I don't see much new news about development in in this area - industry is giving up? I like to be able to read in full sun and I don't like my reading device to be brighter then environment - but apparently I'm minority. Am I? |

I would not read on anything but e-ink. I can not read on a tablet or smartphone very long but I can read for hours and hours with my voyage. And Amazon seems to be doing ok with saleing and coming out with new models.

I don't use my e-ink reader when I go to Drs Appt. I use my Phone. Less to carry. I sure that's what others are doing. Doesn't mean at home they don't have a e-ink reader

I don't know where you are but in most places e-ink readers are fairly expensive.
They are not necessarily more expensive than a smart phone but they generally are used for only one thing as opposed to a smartphone that can do many. Let's see, I can get a smart phone for $50. A dedicated ereader starts at about $79. Not only that, there is the weight factor. Now I will give you that 6 ounces is not that heavy but once you start adding it up a purse or bag can get heavy in a hurry. Example my purse weighs less than 3 pounds. My tablet with case adds about a pound. Put in my small smartphone and you get another almost half a pound. If I throw in the ereader, that adds another 6 oz so now we are up to 5 lbs. Short distances would not be bad but if I had to go far, it would get heavy in a hurry. And note my purse is light compared to most women. I don't wear makeup. |

That may be true by do you read for hours on end on your smartphone. I bet not. I love reading and I will only read on my smartphone if it is the only thing I have with me, most times that does not happen my voyage fits in my pocket with out an issue. My smartphone battery may last 5 or 6 hours of continuous use my voyage will last days. Also my eyes hurt really bad after a few minutes of reading on it. And I can read all day with out issues with e-ink. I do not know about you but what I have left of my eyes are worth the added expense.

But keep in mind, I also know way too many people that it would be economic reasons. Our area went from 475 rigs last year to 175 this year. But then I am cheap and got both my ereaders used for $15. |

Not a problem with find it cheap.
Hack I retired so I no long need a new windows computer every year to keep working. I have a couple old laptops hanging around once they bit the dust that is it. My retirement present to me was the IPad Air 2 I love it and it is all I really need to harass everyone on here and facebook. Last edited by cvkemp; 12-15-2015 at 06:47 PM. |

Ooooh, clickbait title! Yay!
E-Ink is not dying. You just are seeing lots of people who aren't the target audience. You aren't all of a sudden in the minority, you always were. |

I have shown my voyage to a lot of my retired friends and about half of the ones that read very much have gotten an e-ink reader of some kind or other. Most of them have either gotten the PW2-3 and a few the voyage.
