Barefoot Season by highly popular bestselling author Susan Mallery (Wikipedia) is the 1st in her Blackberry Inn series of literary/women's fiction novels with romantic elements set at the eponymous business in a time period after an unspecified but apparently relatively recent war, this installment centred around the strained relationship between two former friends who must work together to save the inn, thereby rekindling their close connection, and incidentally discovering romance along the way (not with each other, from the looks of it), free courtesy of publisher Harlequin's Mills & Boon UK daughter-clone's MIRA imprint for their non-dedicated-romance category novels.

This is the featured Free Book of the Week in the iTunes UK store.

Currently free, probably just until next Monday @ B&N UK, Amazon UK, iTunes UK, Kobo (available to the UK, and also Ireland when I spot-check assorted regional iTunes & Amazon stores, but not in the other EU countries that sometimes get the UK freebies), and probably also Google Play UK, which I can't easily pull up the URL for, since this edition doesn't exist from a Canadian perspective.

Unlikely to cross the pond in any direction, as this exists in a slightly different edition in North America and Oceania, and is decidedly unfree elsewhere (and there's a fairly low transmigration rate for UK MIRA freebies anyway).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

A bit by default, but it's nice to be offered a recent work by a bestselling author, which also happens to focus on the non-romantic side of women's friendships and their business endeavours together. Hopefully this one easily passes the Bechdel test.
