CC Cloud & Google Drive
For various reasons I have decided to support Google Drive. Some users convinced me that many people use it as a backup, not their primary library, and for that reason are willing to accept the risk of corruption. That said, just in case there are some who don't know not to use GD as the primary copy of a calibre library I will add a note on the provider selection panel warning that GD can corrupt the library.
Now the real point of this post: is there anyone in the beta group interested in testing it? |

I'm not a beta tester but as an interested Google Drive user I can certainly give it a test drive and see what happens. My main library is on my PC so no problems if a cloud copy suffers any corruption. If you have a known series of actions that can trigger problems then I can test those specifically.

I am not ready yet, but should be tomorrow (Wed) my time. To my knowledge it works fine. Unfortunately, as I have said before, my testing, like M5, hasn't "been entirely successful", so I want to see if it works for someone else. ![]() |

Done.
Probably a daft question but do I simply copy my PC calibre library root folder to any folder on my cloud drive to initialise a cloud library? Last edited by Agama; 07-21-2015 at 05:03 PM. |

Be sure that you copy the root folder so that the calibre library is in a subfolder. CC won't be happy if the metadata.db file is in the cloud root folder. It is also hard to imagine why you would want that. ![]() |

@Agama: I found a bug in the Google Drive connection that probably won't affect your testing, but just in case ...
After logging in, the credentials are good for one hour. Google provides a method for CC to get new credentials automatically. The bug: CC can do that once, giving you a second hour. An attempt to get a third hour will fail, forcing you to login again. I have fixed it, so the bug will not be in any future version. |

I'm having trouble downloading the attachment from my e-mail and have tried forwarding to another address but same result: "Saving Attachment..." is displayed but the progress meter stays at 0%. Downloads worked before Lollipop update but this is the first since. Looks like I'll have to go via PC.

Do you think you will be able to do any testing with the APK I sent? If it is too much a pain in the (&**^ then I could make a "real" release with GD support and you could test with that. The risk is that if you find something serious then I will need to make another snap release, but I have done that before. ![]() |

I've got the APK on my tablet via PC, but I get a warning message when opening it saying:
"Install blocked. For security your tablet is set to block ..." Never seen this before, but maybe because my other apps all came from the Google Play Store? Seems to be an Android message rather than my antivirus. |

See http://developer.android.com/distrib...tribution.html and in particular the section "User Opt-In for Apps from Unknown Sources" You might want to reset the option after installing CC. |

Yep! Sure is. If I allow the install will it still prompt me with the access rights request that the Play Store apps do?

Perhaps it would be best to uninstall the Play Store CC first?

No. What I sent you *is* a play store version, exactly as the store would deliver it. There would be no benefit and much hassle if you deleted the existing one first. For example, you would lose whatever you already have in CC.
