Book keeps reappearing

I use calibre all the time. I had a book I downloaded through Digital Editions, but never used Calibre with. Have since removed the book from DE. Now everytime I add a book to Calibre, I get that one book over and over again.

Steps so far
Update to the latest version Calibre
Uninstalled and reinstalled Calibre
Uninstalled, used Regedit to remove all occurrence of Calibre. Rebooted and reinstalled
Uninstalled and reinstalled DE

Nothing has fixed it. Any suggestions are welcome

Clear your (user assigned) Auto Add folder.. It probably points to a location that has that title

To edit my ebooks I convert them to AZW3. After proofreading it, I send it to my Kindle DX. During (I believe) the Send to Device process a MOBI file will be created. Even if I delete that MOBI file (Formats:, (right click), Delete the MOBI format) the MOBI file shall be created again and again. How could I prevent this? (With the Send To Device action the MOBI file seems to be the default version to be sent to the Device, that may not have the revisions made during the Edit process. Is there a way to know and select which type is being edited? AZW3, EPUB, MOBI? And or to know which version is sent to the device?)

You can specify in the device driver settings what formats it accepts, and also the priority order.

Calibre first checks to see if it has any of the formats set as acceptable, and if so sends the highest priority one. If there is no acceptable file format then Calibre will convert to the highest priority one set in the Device driver settings.

That is exactly the information I was looking for. I was searching for it in the "preferences", but only now that you've pointed out did I realize that the Device must be connected to be able to get to the "Configure this device" option. (Since my intended default (AZW3) wasn't even included in the list, the first available option (MOBI) was created and sent to my Kindle DX device. Thanks for pointing me to the right direction!

FWIW You can always configure devices from Preferences: Plugins: Device Interface: <device>

The burden shifts to you to find and choose which device. Other than that, it is the same setting

You have a Kindle DX that will handle AZW3 files? The standard firmware won't; it never went beyond 2.6, which only handles MOBI. I know there is a way to get them to run 3.1 if you have a 'donor' KK available to get the firmware from, but I never tried that.

I should have started with "off to see the Wizard". You're right, I thought that I had a Kindle DX that not only handles but has its default files as AZW3, but I don't. Where I got that idea I can't remember any longer. The firmware that I have is the latest (and as far as I know the last) Kindle DX update ver. 2.5.8_B004. I think I shouldn't be surprised that Amazon abandons its older customers, everybody else does the same.

I've purchased my DX used so didn't put in much work learning its behavior. It could be that at one point I purchased (or have converted) some books from Amazon, that I have received it in the AZW3 format, and that's how the whole confusion started.
But as I found out and now you've confirmed, the DX will not handle AZW3 files. They will be transferred (Sent to) the device by Calibre but will not show up in the book list, thus are unaccessible to the DX user. (You can read them fine with Calibre). The problem is that Amazon sends converted files back in MOBI format, that Calibre cannot edit. So to edit with Calibre the files have to be converted to AZW3 (or I believe EPUB would also work), and then edited. When the file eventually is sent to the device, there will be a new MOBI generated (Calibre is kind of smart to do that), and that MOBI is the version which will be "Sent to Device". (A simple Windows file check validates this behavior. It's a kind of cumbersome method but at least it works. (I have removed AZW3 as a file that can be handled by the DX device and placed MOBI at the top of the order of file types handled by it.)
So I thank you for your confirmation, and the exact reason why AZW3 won't work with the DX. Is there any other method you could recommend to handle file conversions, (use EPUB to edit!?, and avoid AZW3 like the plague), for the DX with or without Calibre?

Editing EPUB or AZW3 is a must. Either way, you still have to convert to MOBI, so it doesn't really make a difference from that perspective.
I suggest EPUB, since it is easier to edit. Also faster, since calibre doesn't have to unpack and repack the entire mobipocket database wrapper -- ZIP extraction/updating is faster == less loading time.

P.S. Stop updating != stop supporting. The DX is the last device to not support AZW3, and Amazon still creates MOBI for every book in their catalogue.
They *have* stopped updating the DX with new features, but it still does everything it used to do.
Not bad for a 6-year-old device.

If manufacturers would release products that are fully functional we wouldn't need "updates" and community development of software (such as Calibre) augmenting and/or fixing the shortcomings of those products. Such basic features as file management and being able to edit an eBook should be included in the design of all eBook readers.
The old Kindle DX that had a reasonably sized (standard book) format, was replaced by any number of smaller devices. I have nothing against those, but they are at best paperback or pocket book readers.

You are the first person I have ever heard claim that editing ebooks should be part of the fundamental design of an ereader.

Boggles the mind how folk keep bloating the features of basic functionality of a Target device.

Why doesn't my car make its own spares or my freezer order missing supplies?
Or my 40 year old Comptons, self update?

There are three ways to go about this, in increasing order of complexity:

1) Leave everything as is, and buy your books from Amazon through Kindle for PC. That'll give you the AZW3 Calibre can edit and convert to Mobi afterwards when sending the book to your DX. This is what I did when I still used my DXG.

2) Install Duokan on your DX. That will let it read DRM-free Epub, but it won't handle DRMed Amazon books. But you can dualboot the original Kindle OS to handle those.

3) Upgrade your DX to OS 3.1 using a donor K3/Kindle Keyboard. That will let it handle AZW3 natively.
