Unhappy I need an ISO file

Please I need your help!

My Kobo is "died": my pcs don't see any device!

So I've opened my Kobo Aura HD
I've extracted the core 4gb SanDisk and checked... my pcs asked me to format it! No data, nothing at all!

Maybe all was due at a mistake of mine... when upgrading my Kobo via Kobo Desktop my pc went down. After that switch off I cannot use my Kobo.

Now I need help! No firmware, no database, no OS, nothing...

Please I need an ISO file for my trouble. (I don't think a simple firmware can be useful...) Anyone helping me?

Quite normal, if you tried this with a Windows PC.

If you need to backup anything, your data is probably still there if you take a look with a Linux CD.

Thank you for your reply but I don't have a CD slot in my pcs (notebooks) and I don't know Linux. Sorry...

I use windows 8.1 and SQLite (for Kobo huge database).

Maybe if I use a format / partition software can I see anything?

When Windows asked to format the card, did you? If not, put the card back in the device, and do a factory reset using the buttons. This is done by:

- Charge the device for a while.
- Hold the power switch in the off position for at least 20 seconds.
- Hold the light button down and turn it on.
- Release the light button when the LED starts to flash.

Hopefully the device will do a factory reset and then take you through the setup. If that doesn't work, try again, but extend the times.

If that still doesn't work, someone can supply an image to write to the SD card.

I used this some time ago with Win7 and it works quite well, the tools you need are linked to there as well.

Luck;

Thank you to everybody for your help!

Riassembled Kobo.
Just tried to reset...
Now there is on the screen the second one with language to choose.

Nothing works... I cannot "link" my finger with a single language for continuing that factory reset!

I suspect that OS is not working at all (for a mistake of mine when I unwired kobo during an upgrade firmware from my Kobo Desktop pc) and so it's impossible to reset because I cannot enter any menu by my finger. (Sorry for my english)

Well, if I use Kobo local service warranty, I'll have to wait 1 month plus Xmas period... but now warranty not valid as I opened Kobo

What doing?
First of all, thanking you
and then pick up an hammer... I hate this situation. Kobo is beautiful but having a new OS from official Kobo seems a tabu. Just a download page, too difficult?

Stop thinking, Now I'm going to buy a simple but excellent (it was my first Kobo before Aura HD) Kobo Glo.

Please everybody, when upgrading your Kobo don't unwire it!

PS. Kobo mother-board is fantastic, all in one and a simple but fantastic SanDisk!

And if you have a problem that looks unrecoverable with a warranty-covered device, charge fully and do a proper factory reset, then a warranty claim if unsuccessful, instead of pulling it open. All good advice.

(I'd also suggest preferring over-the-air upgrades to Kobo Desktop ones, just because I've found those upgrades generally relatively painless, as have many others.)

Also, you'll usually find the firmware packages in the relevant sticky thread here soon after they're released, if you prefer to sideload.

If you have the device back together and it has started and displayed the language selection screen, then that means the OS is installed and working and that nickel, the Kobo application, has started. From memory, the language screen is the first input screen. If that isn't responding, then it most likely means that you didn't put it back together properly. You probably don't have the IR emitters and receivers seated properly so that they are not detecting the touch. Or maybe a cable isn't connected properly.

If you get to the language selection screen after a factory reset, everything should be fine.

If it does not react there, it's probably a hardware issue with the touchscreen. Make sure the device is assembled properly, for the IR touch to work there must be nothing obstructing the optics, and the bezel must be undamaged and sit properly on it...

You took it apart and got it back togeather once. Have nothing more to loose by trying it again. A member here I will not name took Aura HD apart to paint it and painted the IR sensor system so it no longer responded to touch. Figured out and fixed the problem and it is still working.

I took it apart for a number of reasons, not just to apply the grip paint. I had to remove the paint to get it working again. You are right, the IR path needs to be unobstructed for the touchscreen to work properly. The shiny black plastic piece inside the bezel is IR transmissive and guides the IR beams from the emitters across the face of the screen to the receivers on the opposite side. The scalloped edges of the IR plastic need to be clean, as that is what the emitters shine into. Some people have found some tape that was interfering with the IR path. If the black plastic is clear and properly aligned tight to the screen, it should work.

Luck;
Ken

Nothing to do. I'm not so clever... it's not working at all. Maybe it's a mistake of mine when riassembling... I followed all your tips but I'm not sure to made it right.

So Aura HD is gone.

And now I have a simple Aura (another model).
Merry Xmas to everybody!!!!
