Question Add 3G module to non-3G Kindle Touch?

Hello team,

Is it possible to transplant a 3G module from a faulty Kindle Touch to a working WiFi-only Touch?

I'm guessing it's physically possible, but would it work afterwards?

Thank-you in advance!

Matthew

It is not always physically possible (unles you have access to SMD rework tools to install missing connectors).

Aside for that, yes, it will work when your done.

Be certain to move the strip holding the antenna and the SIM card holder when you transplant the 3G card.

That's a great answer, thank-you. I was naively hoping for a simpler mod, with motherboard connectors like the ones to the speakers.

I'll carry on tethering to my phone ;-)

The Kindle Touch is fairly simple to open (see the KT prefix wiki index page for teardown links).

Open it up and see if the required connectors are mounted on your motherboard. It they are, it is just a plug in the 3G card and SIM card type of modification.

**Normally** they are not - but sometimes Amazon has shipped non-3g models with the connectors in-place.
It should be worth a look.

I will, thank-you knc1. I need to open it up to replace the battery anyway.
