Metadata is garbled?

I had Calibre installed fine on Ubuntu until several updates (of Calibre) ago, when it began garbling any metadata I was trying to enter. For instance, my name, "John Doe" would be "2Xror 3Frol" (making that up, but totally wrong.)

The backspace key won't work. It just seems totally messed up. Anyone else notice this or know what's wrong? I just updated again and it's still happening...grrr. Need to convert, help me.

I'm running it on VNC...could that be a factor?

It's VNC...

Turns out it WAS VNC that was causing this...I didn't have the error when I ran it via an SSH tunnel.

But what changed and why isn't it working on VNC? I do so much over VNC this is a huge problem...and it worked perfectly before. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Or if it's a Calibre issue, can the correct keyboard be detected...pretty please? :-)

Find a vnc server/client that is compatible with Qt 5, to which calibre upgraded a little while ago, from Qt 4.

Any suggestions?

Which VNCs use QT5? I'm using the standard vnc in an updated Ubuntu...it should be pretty bleeding edge. (Might not be, just I'm keeping the system updated.)

Any suggestions for what to use instead?

Thank you!

Bleeding edge is a design philosophy (one which runs counter to the Ubuntu philosophy of providing a stable and well-tested OS), not a measure of when the last time you did a repo update. You want bleeding edge, install ArchLinux or Gentoo.
