Best place to order? (i'm in the US)

i've decided to go with an Aura H2O, but i'm not sure on where to order from (the Kobo store or Indigo) and what the customs charges might be.

i'm from Cleveland, OH, so anyone nearby that's recently ordered from either store that could tell me how it went for them please?

I'm in Chicago and I ordered a Glo HD from Chapters. Price was $129.99 plus $15 shipping, but with the CAD to USD rate, I ended up paying $120 total USD. Chapters ships USPS ground, but it arrived in 2 days. Delivery required a signature so you're warned to be there or have someone there who can sign.

I've never ordered direct from Kobo. I purchased my Glos locally, so can't say how quick or reliable they are.

If you buy before May 31st from chapters / Indigo, and pay using visa checkout (similar to pay pal ... you sign up for it), you get 20% off anything you buy (up to $1000, with a few exceptions, kobo ereaders and cases are not excluded.)
I'm in Canada, but got an H20 and case with 20% off this way.
Even having to pay shipping, the exchange rate and possibly paying less tax ( i had to pay 13%), PLUS getting 20% off, makes it much better than buying from kobo, imo.

I'm in Arizona and I always use Chapters rather than Kobo. The exchange rate means whatever I buy ends up cheaper than Kobo, and I have always gotten my order in less than a week.

Yes. Your invoice will still read the same in CAD. But when the transaction goes through your bank, that's when you'll see the lower price after the conversion to USD.

I just recently bought my first Kobo (also H20) and after reading a bunch of threads here decided to go with Chapters. It was super easy -- they quoted a delivery window weeks out but it came by USPS in 3 days (to California).

As Ripplinger said though, it did require a signature.

I ordered from Chapters and got mine within 4-5 days (I'm in Oregon).

Don't buy direct from Kobo. Kobo's CS stinks.

So, with the Visa Checkout offer and the current exchange rate, U.S. buyers could get a Glo HD for something less than U.S. $85 plus s/h? That's pretty impressive.

is there much hassle ordering from Chapters with a us bank visa card? trying to decide if i should check out with paypal or through my bank card. and do i really need to buy a screen protector and case from them? it says only one is compatible, but i was hoping to just buy a cheap universal reader case.

No hassle at all using a US bank card. I used my MC debit card. But you get 20% discount if you order through Visa Checkout (just link whatever credit/debit card you have to Visa Checkout and it works), but that offer expires today.

I ordered an H2O and took advantage of the 20%, but not without some initial frustration due to a fraud alert kicking in on my bank's debit card. If you get an error at checkout regarding a problem with the card linked to Visa Checkout, it could be getting caught by fraud protections.

I used PayPal for this reason, just in case, as my US credit card sometimes declines purchases outside the U.S. PayPal worked without a hitch.

I've never had my credit card declined when ordering from Chapters. Every once in a while, I try Kobo again, and every single time my card is declined. (This is when ordering physical items, such as an ereader or a cover. My card is accepted when using it for downloadable ebooks.) This has been going on for a good two years.

I dithered for a long time and ended up ordering an H2O last night two minutes before the 20% off expired (if it really did, have not checked). I also just bought a Kindle Voyage and will only be keeping one or the other.. the Voyage is a beautiful piece of hardware but I'm upgrading from a Sony PRS-950 (very beloved, but I am really feeling the need for lighting) and the screen size is hard to get used to (not to mention how expensive it is - $200 with ads!). I do love the side buttons (which also means the Voyage can be thrown in a ziplock to make it "waterproof" for the bath).. dilemma but I just couldn't pass up the chance to have both to make a decision. the H2O for $135 USD (including foreign transaction fee) is an amazing deal, but the Voyage is so pretty. I'm always afraid that the e-readers are going to be phased out completely some day, but hopefully there will be a few new ones in the next few years. I read a lot on an iPad mini this past year but I think I'm sleeping better since switching back to e-ink.
