Which firmware has the least Ghosting ?.
I would like to minimise ghosting, so which firmware is the best for that and what patches do I need to apply to assist with reducing ghosting ?.
Many thanks. |

It probably depends on what features are important to you. Some versions had bad ghosting in the web browser, some in the PDF viewer, currently (3.16.0) in the dictionary popup. I hardly ever use the browser or dictionary, and never read PDFs, so none of those worryied me.
I like the current 3.15.0 - 3.16.0 versions best because despite some very bad ghosting in the menus they refresh after closing the reading footer menu, so I can trigger a refresh anytime while reading by double-tapping the centre of the screen. You have to go quite a long way back to find a version that still had that feature. I don't know of any patches that affect ghosting, but most of the menu ghosting in version 3.15.0 can be fixed by adding the line LeanAndMean=false to the [FeatureSettings] section of the device's config file. That option doesn't work in 3.16.0. (But I stay with 3.16.0 because the improved kepub hyphenation makes up for it.) |

Thank you for the informative post.
I don't web browse, I don't PDF on the Glo. I'll live with the dictionary ghosting. I'm currently on 3.12.1 which I'll upgrade to 3.15. in order to minimise menu ghosting. Last edited by leftright; 06-20-2015 at 12:03 AM. |

One thng I forgot was the ghosting from the slider controls: in 3.15.0 (even with LeanAndMean=false set) and 3.16.0 the slider circles leave very heavy ghosts if you move them directly, but not if you move them using the +/- buttons at the end of the slider.
There might be a few other things like this that will annoy some people depending on how they use the UI, so 3.13.1 might be a better choice for some. Edit: For others reading the thread, note that the ghosting behaviour is probably different on the new Carta screen devices. What I am describing here is on the Glo and possibly other older Pearl screen devices. Last edited by GeoffR; 06-20-2015 at 03:12 AM. Reason: Carta vs Pearl devices |
