Free (Kindle/ePub) Inside: One Man's Experience of Prison [DUI Manslaughter Memoir]

Inside (One Man's Experience of Prison): A True Story by former European PGA Tour professional golfer John Hoskison is his true crime memoir of his time spent at the HM Prison Wandsworth (Wikipedia) after accidentally killing a cyclist while drunk driving, free courtesy of publisher ePublishing Works! (exclamation mark theirs) who are e-printing it from its 1998 Orion Books edition.

This is technically a repeat freebie previously offered in 2012, and I could have sworn I posted it then, but apparently not since it doesn't turn up on search, so I'm just going to treat this as a new freebie for the purposes of the daily non-repeat thread count since since we don't get much secular non-fiction and this looks kind of educational in a Kids Don't Try This At Home† sort of way, and has a decent amount of quoted blurb praise from various media outlets.

Incidentally, Hoskison's experiences in this book formed the basis of the plot of his mystery/crime thriller which was offered to us free a couple of months ago, in case you want to look that up to contrast and compare: Name and Number

Currently free @ Amazon & Google Play (both available to Canadians).

ETA: now a repeat freebie at Google and also free @ Amazon UK this time around. Will probably drop again at Amazon main once it gets price-matched.

Description
This is a true story of a journey to hell and back.

In 1994 John Hoskison was a highly successful professional golfer. One day after a match he broke a twenty year discipline and accepted a drink before driving home. On the short journey he hit and killed a cyclist.

Devastated by his actions Hoskison was thrown into a world of unimaginable regret and remorse. He knew he would never escape the pain he had caused and thought a three year prison sentence totally justified. Only one thing saved Hoskison - forgiveness from the widow. The book describes the incredible forgiveness he received which acted as the catalyst for his survival.

As a first time offender Hoskison is led to believe he will spend time in an 'open' prison, but instead he spends time in some of the toughest prisons in Britain. There is no complaint from Hoskison, on the contrary, the tougher the better from his point of view. But the broken prison system shocked him.

The story grips from the start when Hoskison is thrown into the medieval squalor of HMP Wandsworth, where heroin is rife, violence lies round every corner and prison officers can throw victims to the hard men. This book takes the reader inside the walls of prison to experience the fear and brutality that exists there.

† No really, kids, don't drive impaired or distracted. Ever.

Except maybe in extreme circumstances involving a zombie apocalypse which you have to escape vehicularly while self-medicated for injury, and even then, try to get someone less wounded and drugged-up to actually steer the wheel.

Yeah you can consider yourself bit lucky that you saw this only. I have a cousin who was charged with DUI and he saw hell in those 3 days. We had to hire a good Los Angeles DUI lawyer to get him out of all the mess. That was toughest week I have ever seen in my life.
