I WON'T be buying from Best Buy!
I found out This Big Box Store in the USA (Springfield, Illinois store) carries the Kindle devices in store. The Paperwhite display device was locked up while the Voyage was not. The clerk (an Adult, not a teenager) refused to try and reset the PW, telling me instead that the Voyage was the exact same thing, "only newer".
I played with the Voyage a bit, but I was so pissed off, I couldn't really absorb anything. So I left in disgust. This is EXACTLY why I won't buy cameras from Best Buy, They make stuff up and try to BS the customer into buying whatever display device is working at the moment rather than trying to learn the products they sell and TRY to make sure the display devices actually work. They know nothing about the products they sell and seem proud of that fact. |

It is also their way to get you to buy the most expensive devices. There are a few Best Buys that have good salesman that are willing to give you the truth about the products. I have also found that if a device is not functioning on display it is because they are either out of stock are the stock they have will take them some time and work to get to. I find most salesman to be lazy and just want the make the easy sale.

There's no shortage of Kindle retailers. Buy elsewhere.

But with Amazon you can send it back within 30 days if you don't like it. No problem.

I bought mine a week ago from Amazon. I didn't even hesitate. I also have issues with Electronic Retailers and their practices.

I asked them for months to move the PW display out from under those ceiling windows a total of 3 feet! There was even a banner in the area where I suggested. I wanted was to see how the PW worked in the simi Dark instead of Bright lights! Nope they never did it. BUT once the Voyage came out they moved ALL the kindles displays to a dark area BUT wont display a Voyage nor the PW... Just the Basic with No Light!

Once, decades ago, while between jobs I took a job in a computer store. I had been working as a programmer for several years and I just wanted something simple to do for a while. I was one of the only people in the store, and, in fact, in the entire company, who could actually do anything with a computer. And the thing is that nobody cared. They had no interest in learning to use, demonstrate, etc. a computer. They're there for the customer who listens and as long as big enough words are being used, are impressed. Those big words very rarely made any sense and nobody cared. ![]() Best Buy is like that. The clerk probably didn't know how to reset the Paperwhite or even what that means and he didn't know you or know that what you were doing was safe. Of course I'm just guessing but I'd be surprised if I was wrong. If you want to avoid idiotic salesmen avoid salesmen altogether and buy online. Or just get what you can from the stores and don't believe anything you hear. Very few electronic stores have knowledgeable staffs. Barry |

My local Best Buy had all three current Kindle models on display -- all up and working, so I could test them all. I was pleasantry surprised. First time I've seen that. But I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and (I believe) Amazon hires a rep to go from Best Buy to Best Buy in our area to make sure the displays are kept up. (At least I've met the Amazon rep there once or twice.)

Staples carries Kindles, or at least did last time I checked. So if you're want to get hands on with one that might be a solution.

Staples and Office Depot -- but it's basically "good luck" getting a good display there also. Amazon kind of destroyed a good working relationship with their retailers when they advertised using retail stores as their "show room" a couple Christimas-es ago. That's when Target and (I believe) a few others dropped the Kindle line.

I live in Mexico so I buy from Amazon. If I lived in the U.S., I'd buy from Amazon. My record here was my first Paperwhite. From ordering to my hand was two days. I do live a few blocks from the UPS terminal so I meet the truck and don't have to wait for delivery.
