Help - adding Dropbox folder filled up DropBox!

I downloaded the latest version and installed it. I'm using Mac OS Catalina. My previous version of Calibre was deleted as not 64 bit capable - I think. Having installed Calibre I tried adding my books from my folder on Dropbox... Its a big folder with 8Gb of files - big mistake! This was just to open the book files in Calibre. My hard drive started filling up. Then Dropbox warned me I had filled it up completely! So I had to delete the entire folder from Dropbox and then resync it with my MacBook Pro. Its resynced now thankfully so I've recovered space there.

I'll copy over my ebook folder from my backup drive to my Mac's HD. Then I guess I'll have to re-upload it to DropBox. Not a major issue but it'll take some time. Unless I can figure out how to 'wind' DropBox back to it's former state yesterday... But how do I recover all the space on my hard drive? I lost 8Gb! I uninstalled Calibre immediately after deleting the ebook folder from DropBox using CleanMyMac. My problem is I can't see where those 8Gb of ebook files are on the HD. All help gratefully received. Thanks, Steve

in a recycle bin ? - if MACs have recycle bins
on a PC there are various freeware utilities that will scan a harddrive and show you folder by folder, what space is in use. I use one called treesize free. Look for something similar

drop box ( even the free tier) has 30 day wind-back , so you can un-delete recently deleted files. there's no instant make it look like yesterday option though, AFAIK

Thanks. I will look for the wind-back facility in DropBox. Wonder if its on the browser version?

Using GrandPerspective (MacOS Catalina) shows a huge folder in dropbox.cache/old_files/xxx This folder is, I think, invisible in the Mac Finder though. Some of these files were created by Calibre this afternoon when I added the books from the DropBox folder. I see this from the file creation dates. But some were created much earlier.
