Ordering French-language ebooks to the UK

I've just tried to download a couple of ebooks from the FNAC website: when I got to the end of the process, I was informed (in French) that I was in the wrong geographic area.

Is this true for all French-language ebooks? Or are there other sites that I should be going to?

(I know that Kobo has a few French titles, but I really need a large, up-to-date, contemporary selection.)

Copyright laws provide that various entities have the rights to sell ebooks in different regions. If you are in one region, you cannot legally buy books licensed for a different region.

You need to find a seller that has the rights to sell the books you want in your region.

Amazon.co.uk has most of the French language books that Amazon.fr has

1-16 of 205,240 results for Kindle Store : "french edition"

Some free

1-16 of 6,138 results for Kindle Store : £0-£0 : "french edition"

(and Amazon.fr has lots of English language books, though they may be US rather than UK editions)

Thank you for this: but I'm using a Sony Reader, and Amazon is selling stuff for Kindle only, isn't it?

And last I looked, the books on Amazon are georestricted as well.
If not you might try with removing drm and converting.

Oh, try the bookeen shop maybe. Else, numilog.
Though kobo directly maybe.

And yeah, our publisher still live in the previous century.

The poster states that he is in the UK, hence the recommendation of amazon.co.uk.

Format conversion is very easy; I buy many ePub books and convert them to Kindle format. Going the other way is just as easy.

Sme of these did show on amazon.com. I could buy them when using my french account. But, when saying "i'm the us" , bam, georestricted.

If amaozn don't geo-restrict that a good sign. Kobo should do then.

All Kindle books listed on amazon.co.uk can be ordered by people with Amazon UK accounts. Nobody who has an account in any country other than the UK (or Ireland) can buy Kindle books from the site.
