Question Kindle for Windows 8 app and Calibre
I have Kindle for Windows 8 and Kindle for PC on my laptop. I usually just move books from my kindle for PC to calibre, but am unable to properly find the books that are stored on kindle for windows 8 app (I have found some pathways but the books appeared in some kind of cache/weird format.)
I would like to move these books into calibre.
I have run into a few possible solutions but they didnt have enough info..such as
1. installing kindle for windows 7 on my desktop but have been unable to find any kindle windows for windows 7 links/downloads that work/are legit.
2. just moving the books from to kindle for pc...but amazon at times only gives you the choice to view the book in your kindle for windows 8 app or through cloud, not through kindle for pc

Any solutions to find, convert, and move these books would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. my concern is not drm on the books (which may or may not have them), simply converting (if not in a format calibre can recognize) and moving them...

LOL hopefully someone figures out the workaround for this app!
Checked your download it is the kindle for pc download which i already have but am specifically looking for the kindle for windows 7 download unless they are the same thing...

Kindle for PC is the link I gave, it should give you the desktop application.
This is not the Kindle Metro app.

You should receive a download for "KindleForPC-installer.exe".

Yes this is what I already have on my computer, kindle for pc...from previous posts there seems to be a difference in the current kindle for pc (your link above which is the one i already have on my desktop) vs kindle for windows 7...

It is Kindle for PC.

If you have it already, then what exactly is the problem?

ok previous research i found showed a windows for 7...i think time and technology has closed that door...
at this point just ither how to convert fragment files into azw or mobi to place into calibre

Let me rephrase that... there is not and never has been any such thing as Kindle for Windows 7.

There is, and has always been, Kindle for PC -- it is a win32 application designed to run on Windows XP, Vista, 7, etc. etc., and of course it works on Windows 8 as well.


If you want to DeDRM your books, Kindle for PC will download the AZW3 (or legacy MOBI) files.
KIndle for Windows 8 is a metro app, and like apps in general, it stores info in appdata caches with no rhyme or reason. Those cannot be recovered, and there is no point in trying when Kindle for PC works perfectly anyway.

At one point (and perhaps still) the behavior of the Kindle for PC applications delivered to the PC depended on which version of windows you are running. I installed a working K4PC (books arrive in azw files not fragments) on my windows 8.1 machine by downloading the install file on a Win7 machine and transferring it to the laptop.

The K4PC version here might work for you.

you missed the main point from my first message...not all my books download into kindle for pc...some WILL ONLY download into the kindle app for windows 8, hence why I wanted to figure out how to move them from the app into calibre

thanks i will try this to see if it will allow me to download/view all my books here, instead of separating books between the windows 8 app and K4PC

Can you give an example of a book that will only download into the Kindle app for Windows 8, and not the regular Kindle for PC? I want to know what to avoid, since I don't have the Kindle App for Windows 8 registered to my account, and I would hate to be stuck with a book I couldn't read.

So what is the difference between getting it directly from Amazon or getting it from cnet, other than the fact that cnet will also get you a "installer" bundled with it? (In my experience, 95% of all "installers" or "download helpers" include some sort of spyware, or at the very least, adware. Either way, you don't want it on your system.)

Are you replying to me? If so, I was saying that if a person downloads from cnet they get the extra "installer" added to the download, and it's much better to download directly from Amazon.
