Get books FROM device?

Can I use Calibre to get the books from my device, a Kindle, to the computer?

Or what is the best way to transfer the books I have on my old Kindle (where the screen has got broken) to a new one?

The books come from different sources and computers, so it is only on the Kindle I have them all in one place.

Thanks for any help!

When you plug the Kindle into your computer, doesn't it mount it as a Disk Drive? I thought you could simply go to the Documents folder and copy them to your computer.

I use this technique to side load books to my Kindle Touch. As well as housekeeping via the PC: delete files, put into folders below \Documents, etc.

You can add to calibre from the E:\documents\ folder (or whichever drive letter, or selct books in device view from calibre, then right click and select add to library.

Best to have them in calibre, for backup -- though if they didn't come from Amazon, they won't have DRM and you can just copy directly from Kindle to Kindle.
