Password needed for Calibre eBooks?
It's been sometime since I originally had to setup CC. I tried backing up/restoring my settings from my old to new android device but it won't cooperate.
![]() Now when I attempt to connect wirelesslesly for the first time I'm met with a window indicating "Password needed for Calibre eBooks" I'm not certain where to go from here, and I was unable to find this in the FAQ. |

The password request means that when you set up the wireless device driver in calibre you said that connections need a password. To erase the password or find out what it is, in calibre go to Connect/Share and stop the wireless device driver. Go to Connect/Share again, start the wireless device driver, and change the settings however you want.
Regarding CC's settings: are you saying that when you use CC to back up the settings on the old device, copy the file to the new device, then use CC to restore the settings, something goes wrong? What? |

Thank you, Chaley. I was able to connect wirelessly after reading your post. I was up late last night, and actually forgot to get the settings ON calibre. No issues remain there.
As the CC's settings. In preparation of transition to the new device, I backed up CC's settings on my old phone with Backup CC app settings and storage folder locations selected, uploaded the backup file to dropbox to download on my new phone. When attempting to Restore CC app settings and storage folder locations I'm presented with a message "Backup settings failed. Is the file read-only?" Now that I've had a few hours sleep though, I believe my issue lies in the matter of the storage folder locations option, where previously I was using an external sd card for file storage and now there is none. I'm going to look at it further, but I believe that may be the issue. |

The backup settings failed, is the file read-only occured only twice on the original device, but the file was created regardless. I was able to restore the settings without complication once I returned to the new device and selected to restore only CC settings instead of folder. I was receiving an additional message indicating could not restore folder locations that I forgot last night.

In any event, the CC debug logs on both devices will give more information. As you got it working there isn't any great urgency but I would like to understand what happened, so if you have the time could you send them to me (Settings / Send a debug log to MultiPie). Please erase the multipie to: address. There is no reason to clutter my son's inbox. ![]() |

![]() You found a real bug, something I (stupidly) introduced in the last release. I will fix it and make a new release today. Important: it is almost certain that the backup file is corrupt and that the restore on the new device did not work at all. The corruption happens when backing up the storage folder locations. If you uncheck that box when you do the backup then the backup file will be OK and the restore will work. Of course, also uncheck the restore folder settings box. |

That must be why it worked the final time around. I thought it the issue was with the folder locations. When unchecked, the CC settings backed up/restored perfectly.
Good to know it wasn't just me being a goof. |

FWIW: V3.6.3 with the fix is winding its way through Google's servers. It will be given to Amazon for their perusal shortly.
Glad you have things working. ![]() |
