I think your post is going to be moved, but short answer: no

--

Creo que van a mover el post al foro de calibre, pero no, calibre 2.9.0 no es compatible con Windows XP. No recuerdo cuál es la última 2.X que es compatible.

Moved to main calibre forum
No. The last calibre version to support XP is 1.48, available at http://download.calibre-ebook.com/1.48.0/

See here if you want to try running the latest version of calibre from source. You may get lucky, and you will need support for the sse2 instruction set at least.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...xp#post2970762

You may also want to try installing some linux distro, linux is a free, modern OS that runs more smoothly than Windows 7 on older computers. I suggest Linux Mint, but Ubuntu would work too and is also very popular.
The latest version of calibre will run perfectly on Linux (again, assuming your hardware supports sse2, which many computers sold with WinXP do).

Suggesting people switch from XP to Linux is a rather bad idea.

Any particular reason other than your usual bile?

I can find you a list of MobileRead members who disagree with you... people who want to keep using calibre and this is how they were able to do so.

Linux is just different (and its roots are way older than MSDOS/Windows).

I encourage folk to expand their education and try something different every once in awhile. (OK. There are some food dishes, I will give a pass on )

There is a reason there are so many Distros (besides, to annoy Wolfie ).
Folk work differently form other folk. Yea!

Many of the people recommending to run Linux seem to forget that running an OS is not a target in itself. One chooses the OS that supports most, or preferably, all the applications needed. Most often, this is Windows. Maybe the poster needs Windows (or even, XP specifically) to run applications that are (more) important to him than Calibre.

It would be a much better suggestion if you'd suggested to run Linux in a virtual machine, and use that installation for Calibre newer than 1.48. At least, that is what I would do.

Spoiler:

(FYI: I work with Linux every day. I develop an embedded system on top of a small Debian installation, but the admin runs on both Windows and Linux, so I also use desktop Linux. While I can mention 10 or 20 reasons why I love Linux and would like to use it full time, I can just as easily mention another 10 or 20 why I'd like it see dead and buried sooner rather than later.)

Indeed, that is why I suggested it as a possibility.

And then questioned the blanket statement "linux is a bad idea".

I have no problem with the idea that it might not be for everyone, e.g. specialized software.
I do have a problem with people dismissing the mere idea because of pure bile.

Note: In the same post where I suggested linux, I also suggested running from source on Windows to overcome selected incompatibilities.

NOTE2: Most home users will find that linux runs most or all of their applications as well, so long as they are willing to trade IE for Chrome/FF cf. Chromebooks.
Add libreoffice rhythmbox and calibre from full OSes, and you've got most peoples' use-cases nailed.

Is there any database available? And no, not the fake database included in LibreOffice or mounting all the infrastructure around a relational database like MySql, but a database with the same features than Access.

I tried it against Sybase on Solaris - memory is that was no better than the native tools from Sybase (SAP) - IIRC it ships with SQLite.

Are you thinking of running against metadata.db ?

I just updated to the new version and lost my right hand window with book cover, format and description information. How can I get that back? I've been through all of the settings. Did I miss it somewhere?

There are buttons in the lower right corner, to show/hide the Book Details panel as well as the Tag Browser or toggling Grid View, etc.

You probably hid the Book Details panel by accident somehow, anyway, just re-show it.
