CC Alpha release V3.4.4a

CC alpha release 3.4.4a has been published and will be available to people in the alpha test program.

Changes since V3.4.4
  • Optionally sync book files: calibre sends book formats to CC if the copy in calibre is newer than in CC. Requires calibre 2.3 or newer
  • Optionally temp-mark a book in calibre if its is-read information was updated by info in CC. Requires calibre 2.3 or newer
  • Allow reordering groups in the grouping drawer
  • Allow reordering sorts in the menu
  • Choose which date sorts appear in the book list when used
  • Make the top-level group name not scroll when the info under it is scrolled
  • Option to specify an auto-sort for the "Groups" line (not grouping)
  • Support picking custom fields to group from a list. Requires calibre 2.1 or newer
  • Support picking the is-read columns (yes/no and date) from a list. Requires calibre 2.1 or newer
  • Add Languages as a groupable item
  • Add formats as a groupable item
  • Make "Disconnect" optionally appear on the action bar when "Connect" is on the menu
  • Support the Samsung version of Kindle for Android
  • Support both standalone content server instances and a calibre instance running the content server on the same local network.
  • Support both standalone content server instances and a calibre instance running the content server on the same computer. Requires calibre V2.0 or newer.
  • [BUG FIX]Ensure that restore settings does all necessary setting migration
  • [BUG FIX]Make the progress spinner stop if connect to wireless device is cancelled

Note the calibre dependencies on several of the new features. Calibre 2.3 is expected on Friday.

I don't see the release either. It can take several hours for a release to be available. I made the release at 9:00 my time (Paris), so I imagine it should appear before 13:00.

As for asking you to repurchase, that can happen if you change the "master" account in google play. The alpha release is a full production release signed with the same key as 3.4.4, so there is no reason I can think of why it should ask you to pay again to get it.

Well, it is 17:30 and I still don't see the V3.4.4a offered as an update.

To test it I created a new user and added that user to the alpha group. That new user now sees the alpha, so the basic mechanism seems to work.

I do remember the first beta taking a rather long time, almost a day. Perhaps we are stuck in that as well. It also could be that things take longer when both alpha and beta groups are enabled.

This is getting frustrating.

I will give it to the end of today (Thursday). If the logjam hasn't broken by then, I will send a link to the APK to members of the group. There is no future-update problem with side-loading the APK because it is fully signed and official.

@a_daley: are you still getting asked to buy CC again?

@Chaley You will be pleased to know I told my second tablet to go and have a sulk in the corner while I proceeded to upgrade my PC to 16GB RAM just now I switched on the tablet and GooglePlay now thinks I own a copy of CC.. It has been switched off all day so no updates or hardware changes have been implemented. No idea why it suddenly decided everything was cool though... No sign of the alpha release yet from down under (New Zealand) - anyone else had success or is it just me Google wants to terrorise??? LOL

Yes, I am pleased to hear this.

I have not yet been notified about the upgrade on my 'production' device, nor do I see it as available on Google Play. Perhaps GP got confused in general and your not seeing your purchase was a symptom. If so, then perhaps the problem disappearing means that things are back on track.

As I said before, I will make the APK available if GP hasn't offered the updates by the end of the day.

Hmmm ... some of the features need Friday's calibre release. Perhaps GP is holding back for that release.

Still no sign of it. I am happy to side-load it if you want to send it out.

I just installed from the email sent.

I'll have to look at it closer later, but Good News nothing blew up.

@DoctorOhh: thanks.

I thought I had posted an announcement here. I hate it when "stuff goes away". Repeating: I have sent the APK by email to the members of the group calibre_companion_alphas. Once you receive the email, open it on your device, click the attached installation file (an APK), and install it. You might need to save the APK first, then open it with a file manager.

As I said in the email, this is an "official" fully licensed release. Installing it will not require you to uninstall the previous version or do any "clear data" operations (verified by DoctorOhh).

2 things.

1) The group label in the grouping drawer now says "groupsnull"
2)

This is not working. Also, it seems to be taking more than 2 back presses to get out of the grouping and changing the display from list to cover. I need to play with that more.
