New York Times Latest News Blog - Downtime Now Over

For the past two years or so, I've considered The New York Times Latest News Blog to be the greatest Kindle feature, at least when one is in the United States. It provided virtually all front page stories, including continuations, updated about once an hour.

However, as of today, on my Kindle Keyboard 3G, I am only seeing the first sentence of each story. Maybe this is deliberate, or maybe it's a bug. It does still say on the Amazon.com page:
Quote:
. . . unlike RSS readers which often only provide headlines, blogs on Kindle contain full text content and images, and are updated wirelessly throughout the day.
Has anyone else noticed or heard of this?

Something is weird. I am using it on a Paperwhite and even clicking on the head lines only gives me like one sentence.

I hope this is just a bug, or otherwise there is no point to this.

It's back!

Perhaps someone accidentally broke something before the US Labor Day holiday weekend and came back to the mess today.

Downtime is NOT typical of the New York Times Latest News Blog. I cannot recall any previous disruption, and I've been checking it multiple times, almost every day, for over two years.

Thanks for the update...having been a subscriber since my K1, it was on my to do list to cancel tonight (after a couple of days I assumed that worst).

I have a couple of readers and the NYT blog is the one reason I turn my Kindle on every single day.

I've not used this service before. I followed the link, and it looks like a $2 fee to receive a NYTimes news feed of all front page stories. Is this correct? Is it worth the price?

Absolutely. While you do not, of course, get access to the full paper, you do get full articles (sometimes articles in progress as a story develops and before they are published in the paper) on front page topics as well as on occasional random topics on other news. Better yet, it is updated several times a day, which is not the case if you subscribe to the paper on your Kindle. For me it is an ideal solution, since I do not have time to read the full paper every day. Even if I skip a day or two looking at it, I do not feel bad since it only costs 1.99 a month. I used to subscribe to the IHT; I really liked it, but felt that my subscription was going to waste since I did not have time to read it every day. The NYT Latest News Blog is the ideal solution for me, and I highly recommend it.
