Update frequency
I think Calibre update frequency is too short, multiple updates a months is kinda annoying for a stable software out of beta. I really don't know any software that update as frequent as calibre.
Can you just make one major update every three months or something instead of small update every week or so? Is there a way for user to define frequency check? If not, can I turn off "update found" label at the bottom? Last edited by FinancialWar; 07-20-2014 at 05:19 PM. |

As it stands, it means any bugs/new features get pushed out weekly. You don't have to update if you don't find anything in the change list that you want to have.

Preferences ==> Interface ==> Behavior
Uncheck "Show notification when new version is available". There should also be a checkbox in the actual alert popup. Many people -- perhaps most of calibre users -- only update when there is an update they need. There is no need to update every week. For those who like to update anyway, and pay attention to the presence of updates, the weekly release cycle allows us to take advantage of new features as they are released. It also means new users start with the latest stable code. Kind of like Firefox Nightly except more stable. ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 07-20-2014 at 06:32 PM. |

@theducks, why disable system Jobs notifications, when that is a completely different functionality altogether?

But it is so easy to dismiss the update notices, since they only happen once a start. |

Nope, it's under Preferences ==> Behavior, as I said in post #3.

To those recommending automatic updates...
The OP said he wanted less updates, not more. So your suggestions, although meant well, are not helpful. I completely understand FinancialWar's perspective. Calibre has tons of features, and adds more regularly, but I seldom have need of them right now. So I only update my working copy of calibre about once a month. Besides the reasons stated in the manual (good linking gbm!), there is also this: Users may prefer to manually update so they have complete control of how, when and what is downloaded - rather than worrying something unwanted might be pushed on them. |

Given that new Calibre versions not infrequently have bugs, I find it advisible to wait at least a couple of days after release before installing a new version.
