Question Multiple editions for a single book

Hi guys, what I'm trying to achieve is the ability to add another file (from the same type that I already have, e.g. epub) for a single book.

The idea is that I could add different "editions" to my book, like the same book on different languages.

Is there some way to achieve this in calibre vanilla? If not, is there a plugin that allows me to do that?

Thanks,
-T

No - Calibre only allows a single book of a given format to be attached to a given database record. This is a limitation of the database structure that is used.

I think most people create a new book entry for each book in this case - probably with the edition as part of the title so it is easy to tell them apart.

It is possible to put multiple formats of a book into an archive format (e.g. .rar or .7z) and attach that archive to the book record. However that makes it inconvenient to access the individual book formats within the archive so I do not think many people go this route.

@Townk - You can put links into the Comments column, or into a custom comments column to folders and/or files outside the calibre library. If they're file links, you can click on them in the Book Details panel and they will open in the program for which they have an OS association.

Thanks guys for the replies!

I was thinking on a more integrated way to handle it. I looked into calibre DB and it shouldn't be that hard to add a relation table between the current books this way we wouldn't touch the current DB and would be able to have a special "view" where I would have the books filtered.

I'm still looking on how to achieve this through the plugin system but I still don't know if will be possible. If I can't get a plugin to do it I might submit a patch to Kovid and than we'll see what happens.

Once again thanks for the information!
