What is a Caliber?
What does the caliber have to do with the bullet or the gun? Does a larger caliber mean it will have larger power or wat? Im really confused on this matter

Caliber or calibre (the English spelling) is the inside diameter or bore of a gun, and originally referred to the diameter in inches. So .45-caliber is forty-five one hundredths of an inch.

Since weapons now are generally denominated in millimeters, you will also see the usage 7.7mm caliber, though technically I think that is wrong.

Since the bullet or projectile is necessarily the same diameter as the bore of the gun, the usage is interchangeable.

When the caliber is more than an half an inch, the term is usually abandoned and only inches or millimeters are used instead.

But I suspect that the intention in naming the software was in reference to its caliber as an admirable quality.

Someone should also point out that the "libre" ending of "Calibre" has a double meaning. It means free (as in freedom) but it also shares the same root as the word library.

So Calibre is a quality (calibre) free (libre) library (libre) program.
