Calibre Companion - Sync News to two Devices
I do have two devices, both Android tablets, one for outdoor reading, one for indoor reading. I can easily synchronize my Calibre library using the Reading list plugin. Every book I intend to read magically appears on both devices. Yet I seem not to be able to do the same trick with the news that Calibre automatically downloads from different sources. It always ends up on just one of the two devices, and each time it is the one that is the first to be connected via Calibre Companion. As for the other tablet, I do have to do it manually, which certainly is a … huge … drag. And I am definitely sorry to exaggerate.
Yet I very much believe (considering Calibre’s vast array of in-built functions and plugins) that there must be a way of syncing my downloaded news automatically to the two devices, one after another. Or is there? PS: To be a bit more precise, the sync of the news section is initiated by Calibre and Calibre Companion, without resorting to the Reading list plugin. That's a nice feature. But how can it be extended to two or more devices? What am I missing? Last edited by wonderose; 05-22-2014 at 06:35 AM. |

Fetch news (Calibre) was designed to get the news and deliver it to your device. Your Single device. When I subscribed to the Murkynews (nickname for regional paper), the paperboy threw my morning copy at the (street ![]() synched (opened to the same page I was reading while eating breakfast) on my desk ![]() Since this is the CC forum The flaw in your thinking is: Calibre only allows 1 device to be connected at a time, so how would 2 CC devices be allowed to share a connection for the synch to work? (FWIW deliver News is a push from Calibre, so CC must connected wirelessly ) |

It is the calibre forum.

@wonderose The answer is there is no way I know of to have calibre push the news automatically to more than the first device connected. |

Thanks a lot for your answers!
@theducks: 1) Yes, that’s exactly what I mean: the News push from Calibre, with Calibre Companion connected wirelessly. Or, rather, the single device News push. 2) Not two devices at the same time, but one after another. Say it’s a sunny day, and I prefer the outdoor tablet. No problem. Yet, two or three days later it is raining cats and dogs, and although books and articles then just sync fine with the indoor tablet, the news, in particular my beloved Murky weekly, has to be helped along manually. @ DoctorOhh 1) Though I like roses, I am a guy, with thinning hairline and all the other manly, very unrose-like attributes. 2) Who would have thought that! It’s a pity, really, this one device policy. Wouldn’t this call for some new extension, some new plugin? |

However, if you go here you can find out how to officially submit an enhancement, aka feature, request. Sometimes the requests bear fruit right away, other times they get added to a long ToDo list and oft times Kovid has neither the time or the interest to implement the request, but at least you had your request heard. |

As you suggested, I did submit an enhancement request and got an answer within an hour or two.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1321971 This a summary of what Kovid Goyal replied: 1) Trying to send news to multiple devices is not possible to implement robustly, since many devices have no way of identifying themselves uniquely. 2) Instead, there is news delivery by email. Preferences->Sharing by email. Be aware of antivirus/spam filters and see http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....ails-using-app ----------------- Thanks to all for your help!
