Calibre Manual
Would it be possible to put a link on the calibre The Downloads Page to a sub page which has links to the latest calibre manual, there's a ready made space under the penguin.
I wonder how many users know that the manual is updated with each release ![]() BR |

I like that suggestion very much BR as I tend to be a bit lazy getting updates of the manual
![]() However, I had thought that the space under the penguin was for it to incubate its egg in when it lays one, but I do think that your suggestion is more important than the penguin's needs. As the penguin is trying to hatch Linux at present, perhaps she could still have room for future egg laying by just removing Linux from under her; after all Linux users represent considerably less than 5% of total PC users so its loss would not be of much importance ![]() |

The manual is not actually updated with each release (after from the automatically generated parts of it). The manual is only updated when it is actually updated

Hmmm, I get a copy most weeks and I'm pretty sure there's always a new number on the tin - I will admit I never done a diff against last weeks
![]() But nevertheless I still think having it there would be a useful - if only as an easy means of telling new users where to find it BR |

No big anything buttons here Kovid, since I discovered L&F->Icon size Off
![]() If/when I want the online manual, I go to my browser. But I prefer the search in XChange PDF reader. XChange is pinned to my taskbar, calibre manual is pinned to its jump list, so its at my fingertips - well it would be if I had touch - it's a right click away. I also find the PDF much easier to read. And sometimes I'm on a 256Kb satellite link (2Mb real soon now), the roundtrip latency on 36K km makes online help for anything a bit of a PITA, and it chews up the traffic quota. BR |

No hideous big buttons, blue or otherwise, in my installation of Calibre.
The configuration option to set the main toolbar to contain no icons and option to set up a menubar instead was THE best feature I ever found in Calibre ;-) |

If you dont have a big blue help button in your calibre UI, then that implies you already know where to find the user manual, you are not a new user and I see no reason to clutter up every download page with links to the manual for you.

I tried to make a joke about the default big buttons on the main toolbar. I helped to write some parts of the manual (Regular Expressions), so I obviously know a thing or two about Calibre. |

But I didn't appreciate it would clutter up every download page with extra links, I assumed it would only be a graphical link on the main download page and a new page with 3 links to the EPUB, AZW and PDF files. Never mind. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-12-2014 at 04:07 AM. |

Perhaps, this for consideration, would a solution be to elevate the links on the Calibre web site to buttons on the Help page itself rather than (or as well as) being from linked text within the online manual itself?
There may be something I have missed (that not at all unusual ![]() While this is clear to me now, so only a bit of an inconvenience going through that route (and as I say I may be missing something easier on the site), it did take me a few mental gymnastics to find it when I was new to Calibre. All in all though, not a big deal in the scheme of things and other development. |

I'd rather something similar. when you update calibre, it should also update the manual that you got with calibre, the first time you installed it, if their is a update in the manual.

A quick start guide (not the manual) was added to your library when you first installed calibre. You can get to the manual by clicking the Help icon or pressing F1 while in calibre. An ebook version of the manual can be downloaded if desired from links at the bottom the first area of the online manual just before you scroll into the Sections part of the manual.
