Gutenberg and Google Books

I have downloaded Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and uploaded to Google Books, cover is the generic from Gutenberg. I imported the epub into Calibre and downloaded the cover and it shows properly in Calibre and in Calibre viewer with the cover. When i upload to Google Books the same generic Gutenberg cover is shown.
Please advice. I have quite i few of Gutenberg epubs i would like to get this working with.

You must export from calibre, or use the Polish Book feature, before the metadata (including cover) gets written to the EPUB file. If you simply copied the book from the File Explorer, the cover will not be changed.

By default, calibre keeps the same copy you added, to prevent unwanted changes and ensure you can always fallback to the source material. Changes are only written to the copy that gets saved/emailed/sent to device.

I dont find the export option, I see "save to disk" and "convert". I also dont find the Polish feature in v1.3.

UPDATE: i found the polish feature. Just dont find the export option.

you got to turn it on 1st,
Go to preferances»toolbar»main toolbar(or whichever one you want) and move the icon for Polish Books to the other frame

Just figured the Polish option. Now dont find the export option. I find save and convert options only.

Save to disk is the export option (since it exports from calibre, but isn't actually called "Export"). Sorry for the confusion.

I imported/updated all metadata and did save to disk and uploaded to gBooks. Also tried convert after import/update all metadata and then uploaded to gBooks. Neither worked, i will get the default Gutenberg cover.

That's odd, the cover shouldn't even exist in the book anymore.

Test: If you use the calibre ebook viewer (on the saved-to-disk book. It should be on the list of programs that can open it), what shows as the cover?

Technical: If you try opening the saved book with Edit Book (a part of calilbre) does the old cover show up in the EPUB resources ("File Browser")?

EDIT: Also, I don't use GBooks, but if anyone who sees this does, what does GBooks do with re-uploaded/deleted books? Does it cache the metadata at all?

In Calibre Viewer the new cover is shown. When uploaded to gBooks the old cover is shown even though it was replaced.

well, things changed since my last posting, the new cover is now showing in gBooks. Case close.
