New Kobo HD Glo user

My Kobo HD Glo just got here all the way from Chapters. So I got it setup and was able to download a book from my Dropbox. I'm a Former Kindle user so clueless about Kobo eReaders

I have to ask is there a way to get back some of the wasted space at the bottom?

I strongly recommend you use the Calibre Plugin "Kobo Touch Extended" and use it to clear unwanted tiles from your home screen.

I also recommend patching the firmware Info here as well as using Calibre to manage collections info here.

The patch is what you can use to change the footer.

I also recommend patching your device see the Index.
If you don't what the footer and header, you don't need patching, you can add FullScreenReading=true to the conf file see here.

You'll need to patch the firmware, which is a very easy process. See this thread for the highlights of what the patch does, and use the link to the firmware you have.

This is a sample of what my epub pages look like and how far down the text lines will go patch. I'm still using 3.18 firmware.

Edit: Yes, what they both said faster than me

. Btw, the glare in the lower right of my screen is from the overhead lights bounced off a mirror, it's not a screen defect or uneven coloring at all. In fact, it wasn't even noticeable until I took the picture, something only the camera picked up.

How do I get to show page numbers like yours instead of "Page 6 of 120"? It would be less distracting for me.

Thanks everyone I got the firmware patch it still has some wasted space at the bottom but not like before.

I noticed that page numbers that are on the middle right side seem to bleed into the text. Is there a way to fix this or turn it off?

That's also a part of the patch. Look for "patch_name = `Custom footer`" in the patch file and enable it.

Go into Settings, Reading Settings, and uncheck "Show Adobe EPUB page numbers." The wasted space can vary a bit depending on the font size and line spacing somewhat.

Thanks I did enable custom footer. No change. Is there something else I need to do?

I don't use that one, although I have a different issue. With kepubs (converting during upload to device via Kobo extended plugin settings in Calibre), my footer says Chapter One - Page 1 of 25. That was a recent change in Kobo firmware. I tend to use kepubs exclusively. I should see if there is a way to get rid of the chapter part.

I am using sideloaded epubs. I am trying to figure out what to change to make footer smaller there is still a bit of space at the bottom I like to to make smaller if possible.

Do you like the page numbers or progress info? It's easy to remove them to achieve almost wall-to-wall.

I got It saying 9/120 format now but there is still space above it I like to shrink if possible.

I added some of my favorite fonts to read with and they all look really great with being able to add weight at will to them instead of having to modified them each.

I have all the Paperwhite fonts, Scala Sans, Amasis which is different from the default one and a couple from my Kindle Fire like Lucida Sans, Trebuchet. Is there a font limit?
