iBooks on Mavericks with non-retina display
When I view books on a non-retina macbook-pro running Mavericks, the fonts appear a little fuzzy. I believe this is because ibooks is pretty much optimized for retina displays, the same book looks fine and the text is crisp on a retina display computer.
Is there anything I may be able to tweak in the preferences or with the EPUB that could solve this issue? |

Hmmm, try this and see if it helps:
Go into System Preferences > General > and then at the bottom, Use LCD font smoothing when available. You might try changing the font too. Iowan is the default. |

Thank You!
![]() I tried turning off "Use LCD font smoothing when available" and the fonts now appear crisp and clean! Seems kind of backwards to me that they look better when that feature is turned off, probably another instance of Mavericks being more optimized for retina displays. Thanks again! |

Glad that worked.
It's actually an issue on most OS X versions. It's the first thing we get told to turn off when we install any of the menu bar mods. As it is now, unless you invert the screen or are looking at white on black text, you don't know the difference between having it on and off most of the time. |
