Easily generating a bit of publicity for Marvin

I'm regularly reviewing books on LibraryThing, GoodReads, Amazon, etc.

A while ago, I decided I could combine those reviews with a bit of publicity for Marvin and this month, I got around to actually do it, e. g.:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R3UQ6IU5YWI5JI

(Note the final sentence in that review. :) )

If we all did that, it might actually help spread the word a little... :-)

I don't think Amazon will be very happy about you advocating another app to read their books in.

I usually bring Marvin up when people ask opinions of people's favorite apps on their devices. Or when I post a screenshot of my home screen.

Particularly when you cannot read their books in the app since Kindle does not support ePub and Marvin does not support Kindle formats.

Well, first of all, they're not Amazon's books but the respective authors'.

And why would I care about Amazon being happy or not? :-) Pretty much all they can do is delete a review.

Anyway, the point is not what cannot be done but what can be done.

If anyone is uncomfortable with promoting Marvin on Amazon, well, that's perfectly fine and there's always LibraryThing, GoodReads, footers here on MR and lots of other sites where their owners don't mind such stuff.

My post was meant as one suggestion about how to spread the word about Marvin because the more momentum is generated, the more motivated Kris will be to keep working on it. :-)

Amazon can also suspend or remove your account with them, if they think you have violated their terms.

If I find myself in a position to review a book, I will do the same thing. Great idea.

Oh yeah, the biggest problem for us should be breaking the TOS at Amazon. Losing thousands on invested books, music, apps, movies, my Prime benefits, etc. It would be a nightmare.

Should be fine on GoodReads though. I'll even try it after I finish this book I'm reading.

I push it on Facebook by announcing what I am reading and progress reports every so often. I think I've made a few converts.

Even though Amazon owns Goodreads now? I'm not sure I'd risk it.

Really, guys, how about trying to think about what can be done?

There's a word for you in German which is fairly hard to translate into English. It's Bedenkenträger and roughly translates to worrywart... ;->

Merry Christmas!

98% of the books I have listed on Goodreads weren't bought or read on a Kindle. Amazon didn't even exist when I read most of them.

As well as worrywart, there is also Jeremiah: "a person who complains continually or foretells disaster". I believe this derives from the lamentations in the book of Jeremiah in the bible.
