Create a custom column: (I suggest sticking with True/False type as other parts of Calibre have a provision for this type of 'mark' )

Label: Read,
Column_name:read, (Note: you USE all custom column names with a #in front: #read )
Type:True/False

If I understand you correctly the answer is no, but if you follow theducks advice and have the book details pane open then you can quickly see on a per book basis if a book is read. See attached.

Use the mark books feature to get a quick overview of books you have read in the cover grid. First setup a custom column as the ducks advises, then mark all the books that have been read.

@Gunnerp245 Not the Book Cover view the OP asked about but does help to illustrate what theducks was referring to.

First of all thanks for all of your replies, have done the "Read" column long time ago, its doing its job but i find it a bit cumbersome, marking the books read in "list view" will be gone once i have closed Calibre, what i thought will be a fab adds on is that in "cover view" you will be able to "right Click / mark this book as read / date ?" and it will be permanente, so when in cover view you will be able to see in a glance the one you have read. futuer request?? / new plugin??
Thanks again to you all
