I'm trying to switch from reading books to reading on an ereader. On a Kobo, is there an easy way to see how much reading there is left to do in a chapter?

For Kobo-bought books, or sideloaded .kepubs, the reader displays what page number you are in the chapter (e.g. Page 3 of 27). If you sideload a standard ePub file, the reader will display the current page out of the total pages in the book (e.g. Page 133 of 466).

For epubs, what I do is bring up the navigation bar, press the right double arrow to go to next chapter, not the page number and the press the return button to go back to where I was. Not as easy as for a kepub, but it works.

Bever, the short answer is yes: in fact that's the default behavior on Kobo E Ink devices (Touch, Mini, Glo, Aura, Aura HD) with book you've bought directly on the device. At the bottom of the screen you'll the Chapter name / number and a page count FOR THAT CHAPTER:

If you're going to be downloading content from other sources (by plugging your device into your computer with a USB cable), the default is to show the number of pages in the entire book -- but there are ways to get it to do the by-chapter page numbering for those, too.

This is one of my favorite Kobo features; I find it very handy knowing how much is left in a chapter (because it spurs me on to finish the chapter).

I find that I prefer knowing how much is left in the book. Can't we have both?

Can you elaborate on this? I don't really mind about how many pages left in the book, I mostly know how much pages the book has.

Buffaloseven's reference to "sideloaded kepubs" is what you want. The easiest way is with calibre and the extended driver.

You also have to know what page you are on. If your display says page 1 of 24 for the chapter it takes a but of thinking to see where you are in relation to the total pages. It can be done, but not that easy unless things have changed.

Funny that, I find my self saying to myself, it wont take long to finish the chapter and the next thing I know is I am halfway through the book.
