Any way to make external viewer NOT always start from beginnning of book?
I'm using Calibre, but NOT using the internal viewer for epubs. I have Bookreader for Mac which has a nice smooth page turning animation which makes reading a bit nicer. And if I launch a book from within Bookreader's own library it always resumes where I left off.
But if I launch Bookreader from Calibre, it always starts from the very beginning. I looked at the Tweaks section to see if there was anything there that might correct this but I couldn't find anything. I thought it was pretty great that Calibre offered the option to launch a different app to read books in the calibre library, but it just seemed strange that if you use external viewer, you always start from the first page...especially since Bookreader natively resumes from the last page you were on. Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance! |

I suspect Bookreader maintains the Last Read position in its copy of the epub, its my observation that ebook reader software almost invariably create copies of books in its own 'library folders'.

But how to keep Calibre from jumping to beginning each time if using an external viewer? calibre has so many settings, there should be a way to do this, I think...? |

The internal reader in calibre already handle this by embedding the position inside the book file.
I think it would be more reasonable to check if Bookreader has a similar function to remember last position that can be used for this. Either by embedding or by keeping track using a hash of the book or some other way. Actually I think it would be perfectly reasonable if you asked the maker of Bookmaker to make Bookmaker use the exact same method of keeping track of the position as calibre use. There are other areas where things that calibre add to epub files are used by reader software. Calibre is BIG! Last edited by Adoby; 09-19-2013 at 07:09 PM. |
