Connection Refused: K4 NT SSH
I'm having trouble accessing my K4 NT via SSH. I enter Diagnostic Mode and enable USBnet. When I try to connect to root@kindle_ip via Putty, I get a "Connection Refused" error message. No prompt for user name. Client is a Win8 machine and the K4NT has FW 4.1.1
THANKS!!! |

Read The Fantastical Manual (again)
![]() Magic 8-ball guess: this is a recent device, there's no sshd in diags anymore. |

You already managed to get yourself into some major trouble here, and it seems like we helped you out of it. You are in the developer's corner here, and you are supposed to at least have a rough understanding of what you are doing before actually doing it. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but this is not a general Kindle forum. This is a forum for advanced users and developers. We are happy to help you out if you have a specific problem, but we can't hold your hand every time. In other words: YOU have to learn the basics first. Only then will we even be able to help you. |

We can, and do, help people of any level of expertise here. Today's newbie may well be tomorrow's expert. But the only people who receive any advantage from our help are those who are willing to learn on their own. We can't just stick a funnel in your ear and fill your head with computer science. **YOU** have to do that part of the learning yourself. |

Not to naysay... But it sounds to me like he is giving the Original Poster advice, not actually asking.
And not bad advice neither ![]() |

Yeah, pretty sure an ssh server isn't available in my black 2012 K4NT. I'm not all that experienced with the nitty gritty of Unix so I decided not to go the route of trying to mess with the diags partition. I've read that wifi ssh access should be possible with some setup via the usb net hack, but my end goal wasn't worth the time it would take to research (read the documentation

FWIW, if you still want to install an SSH-enabled diags, you can use Kubrick. Simply either stop after the diags was installed, or (better) continue with the procedure, but uncheck all boxes that modify the main partition.
