Under Witch Curse Book 3 Urban Fantasy

Under Witch Curse is book 3 in the Moon Shadow Series (urban fantasy) and is now for sale. Under Witch Moon and Under Witch Aura are books one and two respectively.

The book can be purchased at all Amazon stores.

WILL SOON BE MOVING EXCLUSIVELY TO AMAZON for 90 days for visibility purposes.

I do not plan to upload to Smashwords because they no longer sell publisher ISBNs. They do give away Smashwords ISBNs, but that records them as the publisher. So the only current way to purchase without DRM and in multiple formats is via my blog store: You get a zip file with mobi and epub in one zip for one price. If you want a different format, let me know.

Quote:
When is a blessing a curse? What if you curse a blessing? Adriel needs the answers, and quickly, because one spell will keep vampires at bay and the other will set something far worse free. Vamps aren’t her only problem, either. Zandy, the wily coyote, is back in town, and he’s out for blood. Someone had better find him fast because the body count is rising.

With White Feather to help, Adriel expects life to get easier, but the relationship comes with new responsibilities and unpleasant surprises that put a price on friendship. This time, Adriel might just need more than solid ground beneath her feet and the wind at her back in order to survive.
As always--thanks so much for all your support.

I think pretty much everyone knows and admits that when it comes to book sales, Amazon is the leader. They know it and so does everyone else. I've avoided playing the exclusive game of selling only on Amazon for the last two years. I have loyal B&N, Sony and other epub readers. The problem is, I don't have enough of them. By not going exclusive on Amazon my books miss out on rankings and visibility--and this means it costs me new readers.

I tried to avoid being exclusive because I think it hurts overall market penetration in the long run, but a girl has to eat. So I'll be moving my latest book, Under Witch Curse, to the Amazon exclusive bucket on Wednesday. Readers will no longer be able to buy it from my blog or any other retailers for at least 90 days.

Once Under Witch Curse is exclusive to Amazon, it will be available for Prime members to borrow through the monthly "one borrow a month" program. It will be for sale for $4.99 the entire 90 day exclusive period.

If going exclusive is the only way I can continue writing...well, I'll try to balance things out as much as possible. I don't like exclusivity because I like free markets. But I hope to be able to get back to writing again someday. Without more sales, that simply isn't possible.

Good luck with it, Maria. It looks like a good book! I should add I love stories with witches as main characters.

I know what you mean about B&N and Smashwords. I've sold very few copies on B&N and next to nothing on Smashwords (unless you count the glut of downloads I got in May when I gave my book away for free) but... I'm considering Select for my next book. I don't know if I'll do it though because believe it or not there's a guy that works at our local B&N that's just a sweetie and very supportive, even if B&N.com is less than what I expected. I keep my stuff there for him, basically. Anyway, good luck with your series!

Thanks, Julid. What I noticed is that when I have a borrow or sale, it pushed my rankings a bit faster than with non-select, but in all honesty, I don't think it's made enough difference to matter. The bottom line is that if your book isn't in the top 100 lists, be it genre or popularity or best sellers, the books don't get visibility. A lot of authors have found going free gets them visibility for about 3 days.

So if you are going to go that route, do it with a first in series and then hope you pick up readers. Frankly, I think free has run its course. Amazon doesn't support it with as much visibility as they used to and so many of the people who download the books don't ever read them--so you're not going to see sales of book 2 anyway.

I think authors have had tremendous success with it in the past, but not so much these days. There are a few threads I've seen where readers pretty much rely entirely on free and if it doesn't go free, they just download something else or go to the library. It takes a pretty special book to get through to that crowd such that any of them stick with the series. They don't have to. There are tons more freebies every single day.

At this point of my experiment, I don't intend to leave Under Witch Curse in exclusive. I don't plan to put any other books in the program either.

Sales on B&N used to be very good for me, but that market has slowed. Kobobooks has been a slow market all along, but I sell a handful there every month. Smashwords used to be a fairly good market for me, but not anymore. Of course, they no longer allow me to buy my own ISBN through their program so I won't be publishing any future books there. I realize that Smashwords is still the "background" owner when I buy the ISBN, but I prefer to have my imprint show up. I still have some of my books available through them.

I wish you much luck with your books as well!!!
