Renaming error
I'm trying to rename some books so that when using a Kindle I only have to create 1 folder for the author and you can see at a glance which books belong to which series.
I've never had a problem with this until I downloaded the 0.9.40 version, then I started getting the error message: calibre, version 0.9.27 ERROR: Permission denied: Could not change the on disk location of this book. Is it open in another program? Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\library\models.py", line 987, in setData File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\library\models.py", line 1061, in _set_data File "site-packages\calibre\library\database2.py", line 2218, in set File "site-packages\calibre\library\database2.py", line 2554, in set_title File "site-packages\calibre\library\database2.py", line 625, in set_path File "site-packages\calibre\library\database2.py", line 1402, in copy_cover_to File "site-packages\calibre\utils\filenames.py", line 324, in copy_path_to File "site-packages\calibre\startup.py", line 156, in local_open OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied If I click okay it changes the name but creates 2 copies of the book in the calibre folder, one containing the cover and the other containing the book/books. Any ideas? I tried installing the 0.9.27 version and it came up with the same message. Thanks |

You have either put your calibre library ona network drive or you have some program like dropbox or an antivirus scanning your calibre library folder at the same time that calibre is running.

I have checked and Calibre is on my PC, not a newtork drive and the anti-virus properties haven't been changed since I started using Calibre. It is only since I updated Calibre that I began having these problems, even if I load up earlier versions of it.

Suggest you uninstall what's there, do a fresh download and reinstall - I'm guessing that maybe the install of 0.9.40 did not complete as it should, or the download was corrupt (I know that shouldn't happen, but...) You should not lose any data or settings by uninstall/reinstall,,, but I suggest you backup your library and configuration folders to be on the safe side. Did you do the checks I suggested on the cover.jpg files ? BR |

I was running 0.9.27 and updated to 0.9.40 and then I got all the problems, I have temproarily disabled my antivirus program but it still didn't work.
I've re-downloaded the latest version 0.9.41 and still have problems but now I have another file on my computer in my Calibre folder called "metadata_db_prefs_backup.json" that was never there before. |

Have you done an uninstall, fresh download and reinstall ? Are the messages you get in 0.9.27 & 0.9.41 exactly the same - perhaps you could post one from 0.9.41. And is the error occurring on all books or one book in particular? Addenda Ending up with two folders when renaming a book by changing Title or Author is usually caused by one of the following
Can you confirm that the format (.epub, pdf, mobi etc) and the .opf files are in the newly created book folder and that its the cover.jpg that remains in the old book folder. And if so did you do the checks on the cover file I suggested in post #2. File blocks usually result from having the security settings in Internet Options set too high - the default settings are adequate for most people. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 07-31-2013 at 06:57 PM. This is a Normal file combination. Some things are part of the Library structure and some things are part of YOUR usage of that structure.. They are kept separate and that is a backup.
