Kindle PW - a few questions
Hello!
I just discovered this forum and happen to have a a few questions about Kindle PW, which I recently ordered (my first kindle!). I've been trying to research on my own, and I'm sure several of the questions have been answered a bunch of times here, but I hope you can forgive me. 1. What is the best way to convert and read comic books(CBR) on PW? I've seen several guides to it, but which is the best one? 2. What can you do with a pw if you jailbreak it? Is it to get games, apps etc? Would jailbreaking the PW help improve the reading experience? I'm sure there's a lot of fun stuff to do with the pw, but I want it just for reading, would the jailbreak be distracting? And does this interfere with the warranty? 3. The easiest way to get your own screensaver? Again, I've seen several guides, which is the best one? Again, does this interfere with the warranty? 4. How would I go about reading articles from the internet on the PW? I often fin stuff to read on the net, but not wanting to read it on a computer screen. Is it possible to mail the URL to the kindle and read it? or any other solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

1. I preferred ChainLP but now I write tiny scripts to produce meta file for images and call kindlegen to generate mobi files directly. You may also try calibri and similar softwares.
2. I couldn't find it quite useful to jailbreak the device. 3. If you payed the cost to remove the ads, you may jb the device and put your own images in. Not that difficult if you have basic Linux knowledges. 4. Mail the document to the address Amazon assigned to you. Or you can use the internal web browser (webkit based) to open the page on the device. |

1) https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=207461 works nicely
2) You can run and install custom applications. Koreader is probably the strongest Reader contender at this time for that device. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=209276 3) https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=195474 4) As above. with optionally: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=210210 which is in it's infancy but on the cards. |

For example, for Firefox, there is a bookmarklet called "For transfer to my Kindle", which basically lets you save whatever page you are reading in Kindle format. If you have an account with Instapaper, you can go to the account and download the page, and then side-load or email it to the Kindle. I'm just giving this as an example. It's the one I happen to know about. It might involve more steps than you want to take. There are several similar tools, but not all of them work with all browsers. Mike |

How to Send Web Articles Directly to Your Kindle via Instapaper
![]() Just for the record, here's the master wiki page for PaperWhite fiddling: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/K5_Index#Hacks Right now I only have two jailbreak-related hacks. I use the screensaver hack to auto-display the current book as the screensaver. I looove this! (Except when I'm reading Vulcan Love Slave and forget to close the cover) For custom fonts I've followed the instructions in this post showing you how to enable custom fonts (without even needing a jailbreak). Then since some less-useful fonts inadvertently get revealed via that trick, I hide them by installing the Kindle Unified Applications Launcher and then Font Config (my only custom-installed button for it) to take care of things. This does require the jailbreak. I've played around with different hacks, but for me fonts and screensavers are indispensable! |
