Viewing Kindle screen on PC?
I have been searching all over this forum and the internet to find out if this is possible so hopefully someone can give me a straight answer. Is there anyway with the hacks available, to view whats on the kindles screen on your pc? I have an idea for a kindle hack, but my screen is busted on my kindle. Is their anyway that I could view what should be on that screen on my pc? I am trying to install and use debian on it, but i just need to know if there is anyway that I will be able to see what is happening on the kindle. Thanks for any help that anyone can give me!

hmm.. thats a good one.
Yeah I guess. just run vnc on it and then a vnc viewer. I have posted about 1000 posts with pictures... Thats how I do them What kindle? need more TECHNICAL details.. but yeah If you are running a kindle 3 could be WAY harder... Assuming a touch: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=208735 if not the code in the k3 libre project has the essence of framebuffer over network but is totally not geared up for that right now... I guess you could dig into the inverse of Hawhills code too... push rather than pull the data.. There may even be some ancient projects from back in the day that provie what you want if it is a 3... (I/You would really have to "dig those up" though because I never used them.. stuff had moved on already by the time I arrived) Last edited by twobob; 03-29-2013 at 06:26 PM. |

The kindle that I have is a kindle keyboard (not a newer one, from back when they first came out if that makes a difference). It is jailbroken if i remember correctly from when I installed doukan on it over a year ago. The screen is still partially usable, just the top left quarter does not work at all anymore

There is already THIS KUAL extension to auto move the screen around a bit when reading/ viewing.
I just hacked together a version for the k3 that moves the screen down after pressing ALT+(aNything) and runs at/from startup (So I can use it to see really badly broken screens and choose to move the screen at any time) I have a screen in front of me where the top 25% is totally trashed. This hack makes it practical to use. A new screen is 30£ if you fancy that route Have to see if one of the older extensions exporting the framebuffer over networking, that is all you need then? Just to see it? Nothing else? Last edited by twobob; 03-29-2013 at 07:58 PM. |
