Maids of Misfortune: A Victorian San Francisco Mystery by M. Louisa Locke

http://www.amazon.com/Maids-Misfortu...7454905&sr=1-1

Free again in KDP Select. Written originally in 2009 by a retired history teacher it has decent reviews on Amazon and GR.

Quote:
It’s the summer of 1879, and Annie Fuller, a young San Francisco widow, is in trouble. Annie’s husband squandered her fortune before committing suicide five years earlier, and one of his creditors is now threatening to take the boardinghouse she owns to pay off a debt.

Annie Fuller also has a secret. She supplements her income by giving domestic and business advice as Madam Sibyl, one of San Francisco’s most exclusive clairvoyants, and one of Madam Sibyl’s clients, Matthew Voss, has died. The police believe his death was suicide brought upon by bankruptcy, but Annie believes Voss has been murdered and that his assets have been stolen.

Nate Dawson has a problem. As the Voss family lawyer, he would love to believe that Matthew Voss didn't leave his grieving family destitute. But that would mean working with Annie Fuller, a woman who alternatively attracts and infuriates him as she shatters every notion he ever had of proper ladylike behavior.

Sparks fly as Anne and Nate pursue the truth about the murder of Matthew Voss in this light-hearted historical mystery set in the foggy gas-lit world of Victorian San Francisco.

A Million Tears by Paul Henke
http://www.amazon.com/Million-Tears-...7456582&sr=1-1

Described as first in a multi-book family saga. Originally published in 1998 and appears self-published by his own press. He is a Welshman, former Naval officer and bomb disposal expert. And now writing about Welsh immigrants at the turn of the 20th Century.

Quote:
America at the turn of the century. For the enterprising immigrant - a land of optimism and hope. From the hardship and poverty of Wales in 1890 this is the story of the Griffiths family and their journey to succeed in the new country. Henke describes the excitement of the pioneers in the early twentieth century. A tale of intrigue and adventure - the characters come to life against the backdrop of the time. You will not want to put this book down.

A Million Tears is a mighty epic, a tale of love and hate, murder and suicide, poverty and wealth – this is a story of a family whose devotion for each other helps them to succeed where others fail.

Tee Morris a Harper Collins published author offers this steampunk-ish novella.
Aladdin and His Wonderfully Infernal Device

http://www.amazon.com/Aladdin-Wonder...7458142&sr=1-1

Quote:
From the imagination behind the award-winning Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences series comes a steampunk novella to a legend from A Thousand and One Arabian Nights.

Aladdin is a street-wise thief that finds himself under the tutelage of a world-renown illusionist. He is escorted deep into the deserts in search of a treasure beyond his wildest dreams, and discovers instead something far more valuable—a destiny.

Animal Kingdom: An Apocalyptic Horror Novel by Iain Rob Wright

Published by Grand Mal Press (closed for new submissions) welcomes us to the "bottom of the food chain" with additional short stories included with the novel. Good reviews all around.
http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Kingdom...7458461&sr=1-1

Quote:
Aside from being freakishly tall, Joe is just an ordinary divorcee taking his son, Danny, to the zoo for his weekend of custody. Everything is going great until a bizarre snake attack sends everybody in the zoo running for cover. It isn't long before Joe realizes that there is a lot more going on than a simple snake attack. And if the hungry lions, roaring gorillas and charging elephants now free from their cages have anything to say about it, there is more bloodshed to come. All of the world’s animals are attacking, and no one knows why. What they do know is that man is now on the bottom of the food chain.

For those interested, the latest Schlock webzine is available free today.

http://www.amazon.com/Schlock-Webzin...7461626&sr=1-6

Quote:
This week, in The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, Carter reencounters the old slant-eyed merchant he saw so long before in the taverns of Dylath-Leen.

We have another brush with horror in Bryan Carrigan’s The Graveyard Shift; the return of C Priest Brumley's Slicer tale, The Stolen Other; the continuation of Zak Dawson’s Dominion, and the horrific conclusion to Gregory Bryant’s B-movie pastiche, Attack of the Cactus People! Meanwhile, Ayame’s Love continues with Anton resolving to return to Clarissa, and we have another Rob Bliss short, a story of sex and souvenirs entitled The Vault. Starting in this edition is Michael Bray’s That Gnawing Feeling, while my Blood Eagle continues, as do Varney and After London.
