I'm trying to get my head around sorting the author in Calibre.

Why doesn't this make any sense - it is NOT by either last or first name - what's going on - what am I missing?

If you right-click any of the column headers , you also get additional options (sort direction is just one)

BTW Column sort direction change on second click is common to Windows and Linux (GUI mode) programs
