When converting Calibre aways adds a number to folder

Hi. I am a newbie here and I guess I have a basic question. Everytime I import a book it creates a new folder for it and adds a number at the end of the book name. I am sure this number is the next consecutive number in my list of books. How do I get calibre to create the folder for the book only and leave off the number.
